Over the past week, a memorial spot appeared near the Wabash Street Bridge. (Near, because if you leave something on a double leaf bascule bridge, it'll be lost and/or destroyed the next time the bridge is raised.) Nothing fancy, just a batch of frozen flowers, blown out votive candles and little soggy scraps of paper bearing prayers and condolences placed on the sidewalk heading south.
Which is what Gabe Seagram is looking at, cold and snow be damned, wondering who the hell started it in the first place. (It wasn't his mom, and this was his first trip to the spot. One of the other families? Those CLF fuckers, maybe? Aiming for the sympathy of the community, all for those poor boys 'murdered by wanderer scum' - and was that what happened, in the end? He just. Didn't. Know.)
