Sirius Black has just been visiting Lily in the Main Gauche, and is now sitting on a bench drawing the building to add it to the Map.

Lily gave him permission to Plot her.

He'd like to meet new people, but don't ask him to draw you. Cartography is about the extent of his creative talents.

Buffy does not want to be out in the cold. She wouldn't be out in the cold, except she was about to head to the coffee shop to get sugary caffeine for her and Tay and hopefully figure out what the hell is going on with Tay anyway.

She stops when she sees the guy sitting outside. In the freezing cold, and snow all around. So he's either an angel, or monumentally stupid. Maybe the second even if he is an angel.

Leaning over his shoulder to look at the drawing, she comments, "You know, they have maps inside..."

"I know."

Sirius glances up at her. "...you look cold," he says, and stands up, shrugging out of his jacket and offering it to her.

Sirius is a gentleman. A gentleman with Warming Charms.

Buffy stares at him incredulously, arms wrapped around herself. She's not cold, she's a popsicle, and standing out in the cold isn't helping, but if this guy gets hypothermia... Well, she's gonna feel a little guilty. "I've got a jacket and two sweaters. I think I'll survive. You go ahead and keep that."

Are you suicidal or just dumb? is the unspoken subtext of that. She doesn't need to say it. Her expression more or less gets the point across.

"I'm a wizard," Sirius explains, pulling the coat back on. "I've got insulating charms."

Okay, they don't do -all- the work for him, but they help a lot.

"Sirius Black. Hi."

Buffy huddles into her coat a little more and gives him a skeptical look - it's not that she doesn't believe in wizards, obviously, but in the hell that is Chicago, she doesn't think insulation would be enough. Setting things on fire would not be enough. ...Maybe setting yourself on fire would help, but then you'd be dead pretty quickly.

"I'm Buffy. Not a wizard. Or a demon."

This is where Sirius gets cool points - he doesn't even blink at the mention of her name.

"Pleasure to meet you, Buffy-not-a-wizard-or-demon. I'll just call you 'Buffy' for short, shall I?"

Okay, so he doesn't get cool points, but he tries.

Buffy smiles, just a little, and nods. "Yeah, you do that." She pauses, glancing around the courtyard, and then looks back to him. "So is there a reason you're sitting out here in what... might as well be the North Pole when there are some perfectly warm sunrooms right inside?"

"I'm drawing a magical map of Chicago. Wanted to add the Gauche."

Sirius shows Buffy the parchment, a block of Chicago surrounding them, lit up with white sparkling lights.

"The lights are people. I can identify them with names and track people's movements, but I've been asking permission before doing that. Don't want any restraining orders."

Buffy tilts her head to one side, studying it. "Huh. That's pretty cool. A friend of- I used to have a friend who could do something like that. Every now and then, when she didn't light the paper on fire..." She shakes her head, dismissing that line of conversation quickly. She misses Willow. She's not going to dwell on it. "But avoiding restraining orders is definitely a good. That could get creepy and stalkery pretty fast otherwise."
