And you sit there and talk revolution, but can you tell me just who's in command?

Mitsuki Takahashi is preparing to leave the Conrad Hotel and return to Tokyo- she's just finishing up the last few housekeeping things she needs to do before she officially steps down as head of Archangel Command and leaves it in Vincent's far more capable hands. She misses Tokyo like crazy and she's ready to get back, but... Well, she's gonna miss ( Read more... )

Abby's voice comes from down the hall, exasperated and breathless. "Rex. Oh, come on, Rex, where'd you go? I don't want to keep you in that tiny room, but I will, so help me."

Before she's anywhere near SpyDaddy, however, Rex decides to say hello, whistling at the man from his position on the wall. He's clinging to it, upside down, his crest and wing flaps occasionally flicking out. The dinosaur croak-whistles again, a curious sound, and climbs down the wall toward Jack.

There is a dinosaur. There is a dinosaur on the wall. There is a dinosaur on the wall staring at him.

Huh.

And here he was wondering if this Torchwood has a Myfanwy too and was thinking maybe he lucked out there. Well, if the woman shouting is any indication, this is probably not Myfanwy in some new shapeshifter form.

"I believe he's right here," he calls in the general direction Abby's voice came from all while keeping watching the dinosaur climbing towards him like he expects it to do something particularly unpleasant.

Oh, Rex doesn't do horrible things! Unless you count pooping on stiff people in suits. Which Jack probably does.

Abby jogs in, breathless, as Rex makes a jump for SpyDaddy's shoulder. She waves her hand at him, distracting him enough that he glides slightly sideways and lands on Jack's shoe instead. She scoops him up before he can do anything else.

"...sorry about that."

Jack takes a step back, thankful for the rescue, because he knows from experience with Myfanwy that dinosaurs anywhere near Torchwood's base are not to be trusted.

"It's fine." He gives her a onceover, notes that he definitely hasn't seen her before in a previous universe, and then takes a gamble. "Are you one of Torchwood's people?"

"Me?" She's a bit surprised at that. "Do I seem--I guess I would."

She settles Rex a bit more comfortably while he whistles at her. "I'm not, though, no. Just... came through in the basement."

"That seems to happen often," Jack mutters. Like he's not well aware of how often people come through basements. He lived in the Conrad for two years, but that was another universe.

He resists the urge to shuffle uncomfortably. See Jack. See Jack utterly fail at social situations. "I'm Jack Bristow," he finally says, managing to keep the awkwardness out of his tone. "I... Also came through the basement, with about half my entire team. This is actually my second time in a variant of this universe. If you think crossing the Rift once is a headache, try doing it twice."

"No thanks." To be honest she's a bit jealous of the fact that he has his people with him, but she keeps that out of her voice as well. "You're what, part of some un-Torchwood, then?"

He's definitely got the secret keeper's air about him, and he's stiff and expressionless enough to be someone important.

Jack almost smiles, but it doesn't quite make it, so it winds up being some weird half-smirk that looks like the deformed bastard child of a smile.

"You could say that, I suppose, although provided I can actually get my team together, I may be working alongside them. My previous dealings with them, however, were... Strained at best."

Which is putting it gently. He got along with Romana, Harkness didn't. Also he and Harkness tended to butt heads, but he's willing to set all of that aside for the sake of giving his team the same level of advantages as they had back home- his team and Torchwood had level footing in that world, after all. Here, Torchwood's a bit more than that.

"Your team?" No wonder he gives off the Top Secret vibe--and he reminds her of Nick, to boot. "You work with supernatural phenomena too? How many Great Big Secret Organizations are there in the universes?"
