Here, Doctor. Have a very familiar spider-bot. One which excels at searching out Time Lords. The other, other Doctor's skittering through the Chicago streets, occasionally prompting exclamations, but most people seem to think he's a toy in for the Christmas season, or some promotional thing, so, aside from the odd small child attempting to pick him up (and he's had a few narrow escapes there), he's wandering around relatively unmolested.

And... there! New Time Lord! He takes a moment to scan him -- not anyone he recognises. Good enough. Might as well say hello.

So there's a tiny little robot skittering up to the other Doctor's feet, hopping up and down a bit to get his attention, and then displaying a very simple message:

Hello!

The fact that the bot's now speaking English instead of Gallifreyan ought to be a clue that something different about this one, anyway.

Oh, and the arms. Those, too.

Hey, a robot! ...a Gallifreyan robot, one suspiciously similar to ones he sent through a while ago. Except for certain... additions.

He drops down into a crouch, lacing his fingers together and quirking his head to one side to examine it. And as long as it's greeting him...

"Hello!" English words, Gallifreyan technology, wandering around the streets of a city with too many Rifts for its own good, and now the Doctor is hoping it didn't just spontaneously generate sentience on its way in. He's not above using other people to courier messages, but usually it's polite to ask if they would first.

Well, nothing for it.

"nice arms," he says, offering a finger - either to poke them or shake hands, it's difficult to say. "Haven't actually seen those on a model. Imagine they'd be useful, though. Have to make a note of that."

And there is a Des, recently (very recently) back from a trip to Oklahoma to save Nephilim children, also wandering the streets of Chicago if only to make sure that every part of Chicago is still there.

If he happens to be walking along the same street, in the same general direction, as certain Doctors, well... All the more fun. Especially since he is not really paying attention to the fact that he's doing just that. Making sure Chicago hasn't lost half the city in a freak accident or gotten eaten by Grant Park is srs business.

Every once in a while the Doctor decides to adopt the direct approach - that being to turn around, take a quick inventory of everyone on the street, approach one seemingly at random and ask if they've seen a blue box. Des just happens to be the lucky recipient of the Doctor's curiosity.

So now there's a tall man in a suit and no coat - what, cold? Pff - stepping right up to Des as though they've known each other for a few years, with a smile and a tilt of the head. "Hello," he says, in a quick San Francisco accent. "Don't suppose you've seen a blue box around here somewhere? About this tall-" He rocks up onto his toes and raises his hand to indicate a height, "-light on top, reads 'Police Public Call Box' on the sides?"

Des stares. Des stares a lot. Strange people talking to him on the street? Not that uncommon. It happens. Strange people talking to him on the street, asking about the TARDIS? Less common.

And this sets off DANGER vibes in his head, because the way he sees it, the TARDIS is the Doctor's emotional property (even if it's not his TARDIS- shush) as well as being a safe zone and so anyone looking for it IS CLEARLY UP TO NO GOOD. Possibly, he's being suspicious of the least suspicious person he's ever seen, but... Semantics.

"Who wants to know?" He asks.

SUSPICIOUS DES IS SUSPICIOUS OF YOUR MOTIVES, DOCTOR.

The Doctor sticks his hands into his pockets. Well, that's a suspicious response, and almost enough to make him worried for the TARDIS's safety - he's heard rumours of technology on Earth which could crack open a TARDIS, and strange things must fall into a city with as many Rifts as this one on a regular basis.

Still. Leaping boldly to conclusions has a higher success rate with technology and odd logic problems than people, and it costs nothing to be polite. "I'm the Doctor," he says. "Just got in from London; special assignment with UNIT..."
