is the world finally growing wise?

(OOC: Multi-pup post! :D I'm alive, I swear. <3 )

Rain has a very odd feeling in the pit of her stomach. She feels as though she's waiting for something bad to happen. It puts her on edge, if anything. She's curled up in the common room of the Conrad basement, a weathered book of some sort resting in her lap. She's been trying to read, but she can ( Read more... )

Gene's wandering by Ianto's general area munching on something vaguely food-like. Vaguely food-like, as Gene is far too manly to cook. He merely slaps edible things between a couple slices of bread, tells the result it's a sandwich, and said result is too scared to argue.

He lowers his... meal... and looks over at Ianto. "Don't think I've met you yet." He offers the tea-boy a hand. "Gene Hunt. Former DCI."

Ianto feels like he's heard something about this Gene fellow, but can't quite put a finger on it.

"Ianto, Ianto Jones." He decides to offer his unburned hand and gives the man's hand a firm shake.

Glancing from Gene to the coffee maker, he gives a small, professional smile. "Would you like a cup of coffee?" Because Gene certainly didn't seem like a tea sort of fellow.

If he was, well... it would surprise Ianto, to say the least.

Gene nods. "Always. One thing I miss about CID, can't make the stuff on my own."

Gene fails at coffee, or cooking, or... most things that don't involve detective work and beating people up. And on that note, commenting on Gene's inability to operate a coffee-pot and obtain a drinkable end result would be Unwise, because the things he does not fail at, he does very, very well.

If you asked him, he'd say it's why he got married.

See Gene. See Gene be nice to the kind lad who offered him blessed caffeine.

"So I assume you were a detective?"

Ianto looks up briefly as he makes the coffee, guessing the blend and sugar amount as he goes. He's always a good guesser at this sort of stuff. So, he's a little obsessive about his coffee making, give the kid a break.

He would offer to teach Gene how to use the coffee machine, but anyone he's ever tried that with only seems to end in tears. Or the false drinking of coffee, or even the switch of cups.

When it's done, he turns and offers the mug out to the man.

"DCI," Gene says, straightening up. It's important. Detective Chief Inspector. In charge. "You've met Tyler? He was one of mine." And yeah, there's a moment of pride there, even if he's still somewhat resentful of bloody Torchwood for stealing his best DI out from under him.

He takes the mug with a muttered "Good lad," and slowly takes a sip. The smile that crosses his face after he's tasted is nothing short of radiant. "Make this any better," he says, "and you'll be chasing off the flocks of angels singing Hallelujahs every time someone has a drink."

"Ah, yes. He's brilliant." Ianto nods. From what he saw, Sam knew what he was doing. Which was always a good thing, really. Torchwood was good at making educated guesses, though! Most of the time.

Smirking, he nods his head, "Thank you. I assume it fits your tastes?"

Gene, he's not only an amazing teaboy, the narration swears. He's the Torchwood renaissance man. "Are you joining our operations, here?"
