Thought that I would see the sun by now... [locked to the Doctor]

Martha has done some shopping, mostly cheap decorations for the party tomorrow, but nevertheless when she enters the cafe, she has a few cloth bags in her hands (Martha bought grocery bags that can be reused to save the Earth from pollution, of course). It's even cuter from the inside... the cafe that is ( Read more... )

The Doctor wanders in and drops into the chair at Martha's table rather unceremoniously, giving her a tired smile as he does. "Martha Jones. Fancy meeting you here." He'd try for a brighter tone - that was meant to come out brighter - but he can't quite make it there. It doesn't help that he's still sore in various places. Getting hit by a velociraptor and sent flying will do that to you.

Martha can see the tiredness, the lack of brightness in his tone. It's not hard for her to notice it with him and there's concern in her gaze even as she smiles at him. Not tired or bright, but soft and warm. She'll ask. Just not quite yet.

"Oh, yes. Fancy that." She laughs, softly. "It's not as if I asked you to meet me here or anything."

Martha holds her glass in her hands.

"I already ordered for you. Hope that's okay. Figured it'd be a surprise, at least. I sort of picked randomly."

The Doctor shrugs, his smile growing just a bit more genuine as he looks at her. No less exhausted, but it's something. "Oh, you know me. I'm always up for a surprise."

And this is the kind of surprise that isn't going to explode and kill anyone (in theory), so that's a plus as well. "Are you finished with the, ah... shopping?" Yes, Doctor. Shopping is a terrifying thing to be avoided at all costs. Or at least you'd think so, from the way he says it.

"Yes, you are. I sort of guessed that it applied to food, too."

If cafe food starts exploding, there is really something wrong with the world.

She laughs, again, and lifts up one of the bags to show him that she's been there, done that already.

"All finished. I promise. Plenty of decorations and party favors... uhm, that sort of thing. I wasn't sure what to get, but I think this'll do. Anyway, I think a party's something that's difficult to mess up."

And okay, she can't hold off asking any longer. Martha puts her elbow on the table and her chin in her hand as she looks at him.

"Is... everything alright?"
