I don't feel like dancing

PC Cooper has been doing her best to get acclimated to this new world she's found herself in. It's been difficult, but she's been managing. She has no job, no money, and two changes of clothing (one kindly provided by one of the angels), but... well, she's trying.

It's proving difficult. She wants Rhys. She wants to go home. And she wants, if ( Read more... )

Oliver is on his way back down to the basement when he spots her. He's seen her before, though never really stopped to say hi or anything, not that he ever had much of a reason to.

But he's not in a rush and she seems like she's looking for something and he never was the kind of guy to pass up an opportunity.

Wandering over to the reception desk, he grins a little. "Hey," he says. "Are you looking for something? I might be able to lend a hand if you want."

Or y'know, maybe he can find his own special way to muck up this gesture of kindness but she doesn't need to know that.

"Hm?" Gwen looks over at him, a little startled, as if she hadn't quite noticed him. She was a bit lost in thought, forgive her. "Oh, no, I'm just... waiting to see if I can run into... someone in charge."

Feeling aimless. She doesn't like that feeling.

He doesn't mind the lack of noticing, he's good at getting to people when they're lost in one thought or another. Oliver has yet to decide if this is a good or bad trait, although most of the time, he's very much inclined to go with the negative.

"People in charge," he repeats. "Well, what kind of 'in charge' are you thinking about? 'Cause I know people but y'know, they might not be the kinds of people you want."

And when he says 'people', he means Robin and when he says 'know' he means 'am horrified by but am willing to speak to if pretty girls want me to'.

"The angels, mostly," she explains with a small smile. "Or those affiliated with them. I met a woman when I arrived, Romana, she... seemed to be nominally in charge of something, by the way she acted."

Nominally. Right. That's the word we're looking for, Gwennie.

Oliver, on the other hand, is adorable, and Gwen doesn't mind thinking so.

"Well there're lots of angels running around. I'm an angel but not exactly one you'd be looking for. Around here, all you really gotta do is throw a rock and chances are you'll hit one but don't do that, okay? Really, it won't end well, especially right now."

At the mention of Romana though, he laughs. "Now her? She's an important angel. The head hancho, the big cheese, our very own boss lady."

And the one thing that scares him more than Robin. She's a fine leader but lets face it, Oliver can be annoying and it's just common sense that you don't annoy the higher ups, especially the so-higher-ups-you-can't-even-see-them.

"She's probably got her hands full right now," he adds after a second. "Got this crazy shipment of angels that came in and I bet she's busy with them but maybe we could...I dunno, leave a note or something. Or I could talk to Robin, he's good...Things."

"I'd noticed, actually," Gwen says with mild amusement. "But... I'm not much help, I'm sure, I'm just a PC back home, but... I wanted to offer my assistance. Wherever it's needed."

So, if Robin could put her to good use? Sure, tell Robin!

Robin only stops in the lobby, because Oliver's there. He halts, abruptly, and lists off things for Oliver to do. Very basic thing with one task that is more important and requires much more responsibility than all the rest. Just one task. It's how someone can tell that he likes Oliver in a vague, annoyed, don't stay near me for long sort of way.

"You got all that? Don't make me repeat it. Really. I just might break things instead. And we don't want that, again."

He has been so stressed and on the verge of exploding since the last he spoke with Natasha (the very last time No) that he doesn't even notice Gwen until he's finished the list and he's turning to leave.

"Did you need something?"

"Yes," Gwen says quickly. "Sorry to bother you, I just thought... I'm PC Gwen Cooper, Cardiff police, I thought maybe I could be of use here." She smiles a little, apologetically. "Give me something to do, so I'm not mucking about going mad from boredom. But you're busy, so I won't get in the way."
