When you can't walk, you crawl. And when you can't do that...

Becky, unbeknownst to her narration, went to the hospital this morning. And got her cast off. She's on crutches, because her leg won't quite hold her just yet, but... her cast is off. Her ribs are completely healed, her leg is healed, and really the only thing wrong anymore as a result of her Fall is... well, that she's Fallen ( Read more... )

Anya has so little experience with demons other than Malek, the wanna-be Dons of Guam, and her old roommates, it's a bit pathetic. She's used to being able to hang on Malek's elbow day-in and day-out, and now that Malek is out dealing with bigger things, she's not at all sure what she's supposed to do with herself.

She's lurking in the courtyard when she sees someone crutching in, and... well, if there's one thing crutches do for Becky, they make her seem like no threat at all. Not that Malek says there's any threat in the Main Gauche, not even from the big bad scary ones, but that doesn't mean Anya will be comfortable around them anyway.

She darts up, falling into step beside Becky. "Hi," she says, opting to punch through her own shyness basically by just forcing words out. "I'm Anya."

Becky blinks, startled, and almost loses her balance because... well there's someone all the sudden there. And she's already unsteady.

"Woah! Um! Hi?" She smiles a little, uncertainly. "Um... I'm Becky. Have to say, I think that's the most abrupt introduction I've ever gotten."

And given Becky and the past four years of her life? That's saying something.

Anya jumps a little at Becky jumping, hands going up either to hatch her breath or to steady Becky - even the hands aren't quite sure which. "I'm sorry!" she says. "I just - I'm quiet." She attempts a smile. "I don't really... introduce myself. I'm usually with Malek..."

It occurs to her that this person may not know Malek.

"He's, um, one of the demons here. Behemoth." And ridiculously overproud of that fact.

Becky laughs a little, in a friendly (and slightly "please don't kill me") sort of way. "Oh. Um. Haven't run into him. I'm sort of new?"

Pause. Oh, right, politeness. Even if she's a demon and that makes Becky nervous. "Um, but nice meeting you even if I... don't know him?"

She's not sure how to handle demons trying to socialize with her. When they're not Annie or Rusty. Who don't count. Or something.

"Yeah, nice meeting you, too," Anya says.

If it's any consolation, Becky, Anya is another one of those demons really bad at being demonic. She makes herself keep smiling, because she's feeling more than a little awkward and has the impression Becky is, too.

"So... what happened to your leg?" Her voice is meek, not entirely sure whether she's allowed to ask or know.

"Oh, um, I... I fell." Which is true. There's just a capital letter there that she's leaving out. "Broke my leg. Just got the cast off."

She sticks her scrawny and rather pasty leg out and wiggles it proudly. Okay, so maybe she's just a a little overly pleased with getting that cast off.

"Ouch." She pulls a face. "I'm sorry. I broke my wrist once, and I can only remember how much I hated that. But I had Malek doting on me the entire time. His solution for everything seems to be ice cream."

She tilts her head. There's... maybe, possibly a chance that this is the appropriate thing to suggest? Or ask?

"...we could go get some, sometime?"

Ice cream in large portions: the energy-burning Afreet's best friend.

"Um... sure! Yeah, sure. That'd be fun." Becky smiles a bit. It's... very random, to her. But ice cream is fun. "Um, I'll warn you, though, my friend Annie's sort of... she doesn't like to let me out of her sight lately? So she'll probably tag along."

Especially after she snuck out this morning.

"That's... okay," Anya says, though she's not at all sure that she wants to go somewhere with too many people if Malek's not there. Then, she can't very well invite Malek along, seeing as... he's Malek. She doesn't just want to inflict him on someone as apparently nice as Becky. "I don't think I know her. ...she's nice?"

Becky nods enthusiastically. "Yeah, she's really nice. One of my best friends. She's just sort of... she's been taking care of me. She doesn't really like me being too far away."

Oh, Becky could handle Malek. Theoretically.

Anya nods. "Malek is the same way. Sometimes," she says. "I mean, he looks out for me." She offers another small smile. "I never really learned all the stuff demons are supposed to learn... how to take care of myself. My life was... strange, when I was a kid."

This is the point at which Annie realizes Becky is, in fact, back home and in one piece. She'd worried about that. So there's a tiny blond demon racing up to Becky, trying to come to a halt just short of her, and overshooting by about a foot so she has to catch herself on Becky's arm. Probably not the best idea all things considered.

"Becky! Where did you go? I woke up and you were just gone and- You're walking? Why are you walking?"

"Speak of the devil," Becky murmurs, and grins sheepishly at Annie. "Um... cast came off," she says, trying very hard not to fall over from being crashed into and ending up grabbing Anya's arm to do so.

"Owowow, don't tip me over don't tip me over!"

Annie yelps and lets go of Becky - and then promptly reaches forward to steady her so she doesn't tip over. "Sorry! You couldn't have told me? I could've come with you!" She doesn't seem to have taken notice of Anya just yet.

"I wanted to surprise you!" Becky protests, pouting a little.

If Anya wants to make assumptions about their relationship, she may feel free

They're actually rather correct, probably, those assumptions. It's just a matter of Becky and Annie realizing that.

"I'm surprised! You couldn't have left a note to tell me you weren't kidnapped?" Who would want to kidnap Becky is really up in the air. Annie logic. Paranoid, protective Annie logic, which is pretty far from normal people logic.
