It's not so much that Owen has been missing as he's been withdrawn. He's worked, he's slept, he's ate when fussed at, but actual socialization? That's been mainly limited to Penny.
It's finally occurred to him that Rift powers or not, talking to a plant is perhaps not the best way to cope with all of the insanity that's happened since he arrived. (And perhaps he misses Tosh too, but we're emphatically not thinking about that).
So here he is in the common room, ready to be sociable more or less. By all means, feel free to talk, yell, or shout at him.
