"Marty? MARTY?!"
Dr. Emmett Brown, better known as "Doc," tears through the twisting, warping maze of the Hedge, desperately searching for his best friend. The Thorns loom large around him, catching and pulling on his clothes. The scientist shudders -- he hates the Hedge. Just being in it makes him want to run and hide, to cower somewhere away from the monsters that inhabit the place. Like those damn briarwolves, with their long toothy muzzles and eyes that were once human. . . .
But he can't succumb to his fear. He and Marty were separated when that pack attacked them, and now he can't find the kid. Doc's worried sick -- Marty's only a teenager, and new to all this. He didn't even remember passing through the Hedge on his way in. Doc can't bear to think of his friend, the kid who gave him back his name, getting lost and killed by a briarwolf or a vileshrike. . . Or worse, being found by Andrew or Carlos and being dragged back to Arcadia. . . .
It happens so quickly that Doc's almost not aware of it. He's running through Hedgethorn, still calling for his best friend, when the world WARPS briefly, sounds and colors turning in on themselves. Then, in an instant, it's over, and he's plunging out of the hedges --
And straight into a nearby tree. "OW!"
Doc stumbles back a step and rubs his forehead. How in the name of Sir Isaac Newton did he manage that? He knows the Hedge changes, but that still seemed a bit -- abrupt. . . .
He suddenly notices his surroundings have changed. Instead of the Hedge, he appears to be standing in the middle of a park of some sort. A regular, human park. Doc stares, unable to comprehend it. What happened? Where is he? And where's Marty? Utterly confused, he says the only thing he can think of -- "Great Scott."
Dr. Emmett "Doc" Brown just stumbled in through the Rift. Who wants to go say hi?
