True, it could be worse, and she's trying to remember that, but it's hard. She doesn't want to be a guardian angel. She wants to be an archangel

Nate has no concept of risk, for the most part. At least when it comes to himself.
"Mat?" he calls as he wanders into the common room - for the fifth or twelfth time. Yeah. He's kinda hopeless. And never thinks to use the journals when he should. And instead of finding his brother, he finds... "Okay, not Mat."
He's getting tired of wandering around, though, and maybe if he stays in one place, Mat will find him... Yeah. 'Cause Mat's looking for him. Or is even downstairs... whatever. So Nate walks over to Tay and flops down in a chair next to her.
"My birthday was Saturday and I turned out to have the completely wrong calling and my dad's going to blow a fuse," she snaps (though only half-heartedly). "What do you think?"
He blinks, then shrugs. "I don't know, some people just look kinda... pissed at the world for no good reason. You could be one of them. Give you some heavy eyeliner and black nail polish, you'll fit right in."
He raises his eyebrows a little more, quirks his head to one side questioningly. "So what's the wrong calling and... why?"
Tay actually laughs a little at the eyeliner and nail polish comment, though she tries valiantly to hide it. The next question, however... well, we're back to sulky serious.
"My whole family is archangels. I was raised to be an archangel. And now I turn out a fucking guardian, and I don't want to be!" Please don't mind how her voice just raised to almost shouting. It's that or get wobbly, and she refuses to cry.
Nate snorts - not quite sympathetically, though it could be interpreted that way if you really wanted to look at it like that. "Yeah, been there, done that, got the T-shirt. Well, not the archangel family, but the not wanting to be a guardian thing... Everyone else gets cool powers or to kill things, we get stuck making sure some idiot doesn't get himself killed."
Yeah, Nate has an odd opinion of this whole "guardianship" thing that doesn't quite fit with that of most other guardian angels. Including his brother.
Nate considers for a moment, his head cocked to one side, and then offers, "You could get someone else to tell him. Give him time to deal with it before you actually have to talk to him."
She laughs, humorlessly. "Yeah, maybe. I'll think about it." And she will.
She considers ending the conversation, but... well, she might as well get to know a person or two, since she might be estranged from her family in short order.
"Tay," she corrects, making a face. "I hate those things, always put your full name..." Then she shrugs. "Yeah, probably. Did I happen to offend you? Just so you know, I don't really give a fuck if I did or not."
Nate shakes his head slowly, frowning at her. "No, I just... I thought you'd be... I don't know, different. You're so little!" Yeah, Nate, because you're so much older and more mature. And she's actually taller than you are.

"Hi there."

"Um... hey." She doesn't exactly sound excited. Or, really, like she wants to be alive. Give it time, she'll get used to her life.

"You alright, kid?"

She sighs and rests her forehead on her knees. "I still haven't told him. How the hell to I tell him this?"

Pause.
"Hell, I'll tell him, if you want."

"I'm Tay, by the way. Tay Barnam."

"Oh! You're Taylor Barnam? Seriously, you're that b- the chick from the journals?"

And, she thinks, she could probably take him.

That's not true. He's just... you know... Okay, he has no tact at all.

"Uh... no I don't." The 'duh' is implied.
