Taipei: Day 1 : Arrival, Chiang Kai Shek gardens, and welcome banquet!

Apr 06, 2008 12:00

Arrived safely -- the Chiang Kai Shek gardens were gorgeous, my daughter's being hounded by professional photographers already, and our 'welcome' banquet went off without a hitch!

I LOVE TAIPEI!

/next up: convincing ah-gong to let me ride on a scooter! XD

[edit: Sorry, I should explain about the 'photographer/daughter' thing above: I am white. My fiance is Taiwanese (and incredibly hot). Together, we have a mixed-race, 2.5 year old beautiful little girl. She has his features (so black almond-shaped eyes, lovely face/ healthy build), but my colouring (very pale, rosy cheeks, reddish-brown hair). Mixed kids aren't too common here in Taipei -- so when our little one goes out, she stops traffic... literally. At the temple, people give her their offerings of cookies and treats; in restaurants, people stare and take pictures with their camera phones, on the street, random people walk up to us and congratulate us on doing such a 'good job' with her... In short, it's a constant attention-circus, and it's a bit like walking around with a very shy celebrity who likes to hide behind your skirt.)
