Roundabout status
RESULTS FROM THE BIG EVENT THE OTHER NIGHT:
TGH final epilogue seems to have been a spectacular bomb--of awful. (As the icon implies, I must keep practicing.) I guess I really missed the mark on that one. I feel terrible about saying that, since I had so much help getting that doc into (what I thought was) spectacular shape with help from friends over two months of editing... I hope they know I appreciated their help, though.
I'm a bit disappointed with myself for obviously taking the wrong route with the epilogue, but am accepting it as a learning experience, as it was my first fic. On the bright side, it's a good level to improve from! :D When I review & re-post the edited version from
renagrrl7 later, I'll aim for better. XD (Not that I'm putting pressure on you, rena, :P Not at all. *please fix my baby!*) I'll see if I can salvage its status somewhat when I post the celebrity endorsement shorts I wrote up for it... either this weekend or next week. We'll see. I have a wedding this weekend. Might be short on time.
[EDIT: Ok, just to clarify for those asking how I thought TGH Zutara epilogue was a 'bomb'... I was judging from the near-dead levels of reaction/comments. ^^; (rena, you've no idea how much yours brightened my day--particularly with it being the only review XD ) That's sorta how I figured it wasn't a good chap. Usually I'll get a few reviews/comments from regulars... but I've had next to nothing for the Zutara epilogue chapters, at all, so I'm assuming I just took way too crazy a route and people decidedly did NOT like it. While I'm happy in the job I did... obviously I'm not doing a good job as a (an admittedly, 'hack') writer if almost no one else 'got it'. ^^; ]
MY BETA-JOBS:
I'm still waiting for a reply on how much to crit from another friend who I'm beta-ing for... Hopefully will hear from him soon. I feel terrible I haven't sent him any feedback recently when he keeps sending me chaps--but I need his answers on the first stuff before I can continue.
Oh, and whenever I happen to get the next chap of College Daze from
renagrrl7, that'll be added to the list. It doesn't usually take too long, as long as nothing 'twigs' at me funny. <-- for anyone who's been stopping by for updates on Rena's stuff. ;)
THE WRITING:
Already have GP2 Ch.04 back from one of my betas (and she pointed out a couple REALLY good ways to improve the dialogue--I'm also amazed at how quickly she returned the chap to me!), so am waiting for my other beta (who's fantastic at helping me with the funny) to return it to me next. Then I will perform mind-meld mating magic to the edited versions of this chap and will hopefully post it in 1-2 weeks (note to me: and remember, this time, to 'Accept all insertions/deletions to this document' before I post it to ff.net... Yeah...). Then write another chap and get the ball rolling all over again.
As for GP2, Ch.04, I will admit that the chap deals with Azula's past with the A-Team, Ozai's relationship with Mai & Ty Lee, and the introduction of the Aang-gang into the storyline (and a special guest). And the mutiny. Gotta love the mutiny.
In the meantime: Modern AU plotbunnies have been killing me... I'm writing while I'm waiting around the bus station for my daily commute now. >_<; While sorting out our mortgage details, while earning an income full-time again, while Ellie runs back and forth to the hospital for chest x-rays with her daddy, and while we debate about whether or not we'll go to ANY cons this summer... I'm making scribbled, rushed notes on scenes that pop into my head or dialogue that strikes my fancy. I know writing fanfic is one of my 'healthier' stress-relief/coping mechanisms... but i'm beginning to question my choice of new obsessions. ^^;
(OH! Speaking of cons: just found out Seki Tomokazu, Emperor Ryuuki from Saiunkoku Monogatari, will be at Otakon. Great. Make my decisions harder, Life. Keep up the good work.)
...For now, it's time to go read. (The Fionavar Tapestry = awesome fantasy reading. I'm so glad my friends f_s & s_g rec'ed it to me.) I need to go brush up on my not-fanfic reading/writing skills--and the word usage/prose in this book is wonderful for that. *^_^*
