Ah Spring Break - that time of year when schools take a much needed break, the weather begins to warm up (haha), and a girl's thoughts turn to the endless possibilities of spending an entire week at home and able to accept packages.
Or maybe that's just me.
I'm a bit low on money (and Live Aquaria doesn't give free shipping no matter how much you spend grr), so I didn't order very much. But I did get two new fish. Yay.
They are Trimma rubromaculatus gobies, or Red Spotted Trimma gobies. They aren't as pretty as flaming prawn gobies, but they aren't as rare, as expensive, or as cryptic either. And, most importantly to me, they also won't grow over one inch long. I wasn't sure I liked them until someone pointed out
this guy's tank and I saw what they look like swimming. That sold me on them.
Jay has demanded that my next purchase be something that doesn't hide so much, so these guys are a good choice. Actually, out of the readily available 1" gobies, they're the only choice. They are perchers who do spend a good amount of time in the water column. So I'll finally have something in there that likes to swim. Right now, they're just hovering in the corner together. Hopefully once they adjust to the tank they'll be a bit more active. I'm sure I'll take more pictures once they start moving around.
From what little I've been able to find, most if not all species of Trimma gobies are bidirectional sequential hermaphrodites, so with any luck my two will decide to be opposite sexes and spawn. My tank could use some fish dancing.
And just for my own records: the latest full tank shots. I still haven't figured out how to get true colors for the whole tank. The right front, where the favia is, gets really washed out. In real life it's purple and green, and it looks practically white in the pictures no matter what I do. It's driving me nuts.
I'm also waiting for my fancy new LED lights. The lights I have on there now are having issues and it's affecting even the corals I have that like low light. I ordered them around mid February and the guys making them keep running into issues (which happens when you're a 3 man company and the only people in the country doing what they do. So I'm not upset about it.). Hopefully they'll be done next week, like they predicted. I have a feeling the LEDs might help my picture taking - as well as making my corals happy and inhibiting the annoying algae I can't get rid of. I'm really excited about these lights. They will be awesome.
