Inspired by
Cubicle Girl Ten years ago, I
•was almost 23.
•was recently remarried.
•was expecting my second child.
•was on welfare.
•was working on my B.A. in English
•was not writing or journaling regularly.
•had only two friends I saw every few months, maybe two more that I saw once or twice a year.
•had long hair, below my shoulder blades, that was my natural tri-tone auburn/blond/brown.
•lived in Florida in my then-husband's home.
Seven years ago, I
•was in a Master of Architecture program
•was cleaning someone's house as a part-time job.
•lived in an apartment alone with my kids and had a wonderful Sunday morning ritual of planning my week and reading the paper on the porch while the boys played outside.
•was still in Florida.
•was separated.
•wore my long hair in a pony tail all the time.
•had a peach scented candle in my bathroom and a copy of April Citizen Kane's "I will not be broken" hanging on my wall.
•I had one close friend I saw regularly who was going through a breakup.
•was homeschooling Buttercup because the public school wouldn't take him into first grade because he was "too young", after I took him out of the abusive private school where he'd been in first grade.
Five years ago, I
•was separated-in-situ and about to start the divorce process.
•was still in Florida.
•was working on my M.A. in Mass Comm.
•fell actually "in love" with a woman for the first time.
•discovered fisting.
•met a transitioned FTM for the first time.
•met someone my age (roughly) who planned to transition, for the first time.
•had my hair buzzed for the first time.

Angelfire.

•was disgusted with the behavior of her boyfriend who had taken off saying he "wanted his life back" after a few weeks of nursing her through chemo.
•had just read the first Harry Potter book.
•had stopped wearing my septum ring because it was always flipped up (because of work) anyway.
•was really stressed about the toll Shane's school schedule was taking on our relationship.

wasn't writing.
Six months ago, I
•had my one year review at work.
•had just started dating
two people•was told my mother was cancer free.
•was trying to support Shane through his grief that his sister was diagnosed with cancer.

•went to an
Erica Wheeler concert.
•did my grocery shopping.
•had an awful conversation with my grandmother punctuated by her telling me "You know your mother's not going to live. You should call her." and her telling me my mother is being treated for cancer in Rhode Island this time (rather than Florida) because that's where she wants to die.
Today I
•I am on pins and needles waiting to hear from my grandmother about the results of my mother's organ scans that will tell how far the cancer has spread.
