here goes the first set of dream boys 2009 translations. they mostly yabber on about how it's their first time working with tegoshi and how they hope that they'll do something amazing for dream boys. but some of the answers are funny and they poke fun at each other too. =)

kamenashi kazuya X shibutani subaru X tegoshi yuya
with a new cast lined up, the brand new [DREAM BOYS] begins. kame who takes the lead, subaru who returns to this musical after about 3 and a half years, tegoshi who is new and almost clueless about this musical, we hear about the enthusiasm of these three actors.
message board
from kamenashi
to subaru-kun
because I have all sorts of scenes with subaru-kun, anything from serious scenes to scenes where we just explode with energy, it'll be great if we could create good chemistry between us. both subaru-kun and I are people who have upswings and downswings, but no matter how we're feeling, let's do this play well.
to "tegoshi DESU~!"
honestly speaking, there are still some things about tegoshi that I can't quite grasp, so please open your heart to me. even though the door is open, there's still this screen blocking us, so how are subaru-kun and I, who are like little bugs trying to get in, supposed to get in? please don't put insecticide there.
from subaru
to kame
it's been a long time since we did [DREAM BOYS] together, so I'm really happy. let's work hard together like we've always done. lastly...uhm send my regards to akanishi (laughs).
to tegoshi
it's really quite the first time I've actually done something with tegoshi, so let's work hard together. I have loads of fun singing with you too. let's work hard together at that too.
from tegoshi
to kamenashi-kun
the last time I worked with kamenashi-kun was [SUMMARY], wasn't it. at that time we didn't really talk much, so I hope that this time I can do this stageplay while you teach me many things.
to subaru-kun
it's the first time I'm working with subaru-kun, isn't it. but I've gone to watch kanjani 8's concerts. so let's have loads of fun singing together.
to the both of you
let's go eat as a trio!
crosstalk
kame: so this time [DREAM BOYS] will be acted by the 3 of us...
baru: when I knew about it, I felt that it's been such a long time.
kame: I thought, "so how's it going to be like?" I last did this musical with subaru-kun, but it's been a few years, and there's a completely different feeling from the last time we did it. it wasn't just a simple feeling of subaru-kun coming back to act this with me, but it was more of after it's been a few years, what would the feeling of acting together be like? I think both myself and subaru-kun have changed, and then we've also got a new member, tegoshi, joining us this time.
baru: I have similar feelings. but I think we will know how each of us feels doing this only after we stand together onstage.
tego: I've been looking forward to this. because I've never really done any work with kamenashi-kun nor subaru-kun.
baru: I really have no idea how this is all going to turn out. it's the first time working with tegoshi. but that's what I look forward to. even though I've never really listened carefully to how he sings, this time I will take the effort to really coordinate well with him.
tego: but I'm the only one who's experiencing [DREAM BOYS] for the first time, right? so there's loads that I have no idea about. so I think that during practices I'll be asking a lot at the same time.
kame: tegoshi's going to have the hardest time, I think. it's his first time, and he hasn't had any contact with this particular musical at all, and he's joining us after it's been running for a few years. but I don't really think that the actors think a lot about making [DREAM BOYS] a success from the very beginning. the cast keeps changing, and so we aren't so hard on one another. it's a musical that we keep doing, but the cast keeps changing on us. so while we do the same [DREAM BOYS], each time it starts off differently, so it's somewhat like filming a drama serial. I think about what kind of show would the 3 of us doing it together turn out to be like. we've only had 1 real proper practice so far, isn't it, but during that time, I didn't feel uncomfortable or anything like that.
tego: I feel like we're not quite there yet.
kame: oh, that WE are the ones who aren't quite there yet? (laughs)
baru: it does seem like WE are really not quite there yet. (laughs)
kame & baru: we're very sorry!
baru: tegoshi is like a director of sorts, isn't it (laughs)
tego: no, no not at all. (sweat)
kame: ahh, tegoshi reacts so spontaneously, as expected of him. I've heard some stuff about him though. I was told something really quite embarrassing, and I thought, "EHH!?", but I don't have any bad feelings towards to him
tego: you heard about something...?
kame: all along, I had this image of tegoshi being a serious and good boy. so I'm looking to see how my impression of him will change along the way. I don't ask for much, but I hope that everyone can tell me more about him. these anecdotes are spontaneous too you see. (laughs)
baru: my image of tegoshi was the same. (laughs) I heard other things about him too. nishikido's in my group too, you see. I heard that he's quite a dirty minded boy...
kame: ah, that's what I heard quite a few times too. (laughs)
tego: no no no no I'm not that... (laughs)
kame: I've also heard that he can use a really serious tone to tell really stupid jokes. (laughs) you'd totally respond with a, "you're kidding me, right?", isn't it. I need to get to understand that part of him (laughs). but if you're tired of hanging out of tegoshi, just shut the dressing room door (laughs). another thing I heard about tegoshi is that his singing is wonderful. even though I was like, "yes yes I know I KNOW." (laughs)
baru: I hear a lot about him being a good singer too. and I don't just hear it from nishikido, but from a lot of other people too.
tego: I also have a strong image of subaru-kun singing. like singing while playing the guitar, etc.
kame: my image of subaru is that he's a very delicate looking person, but he's also got a lot of strength hidden inside. even though I say out my thoughts in this way, it really has an extremely good side to its meaning.
baru: good meaning? why are you emphasising on that huh? (laughs)
kame: well, I somehow thought that way of saying it as being rude. just summing up somebody's character as if I know everything.
baru: what about tegoshi's image of kame?
tego: I've never really met up and talked properly with kamenashi-kun until now. I see him pass me by more often at tv studios instead. like he'll be wearing a yukata, saying [gokusen]!
kame: that's really recent, isn't it (laughs).
(note: this interview was done in the middle of august)
baru: my image of kame is that he's a really talented man. he seems to be able to do anything. and it's not just an impression, he is really talented. I think that's amazing. to be able to do anything. I can't do so many things.
kame: on the contrary, I think the two of you are amazing people. you have fixed roles to play, don't you. for example, subaru-kun is either in the band, or singing. as for me, I don't have something that's a given for me to do. I end up having a bad habit of doing anything and everything, but I want to have a special thing to do. this time I'm going to study this musical a lot, be it singing or anything else. these few days at the practice, while we were going through the script, somehow I'm beginning to grasp the atmosphere the 3 of us have. just as tegoshi said earlier, we're still not quite there though (laughs).
tego: earlier on, I was referring to myself when I used the phrase 'not quite there yet'. (sweat) it wasn't meant to evaluate both of your performances. I've been trying to do this with all my might. while rehearsing, I think I'm really terrible. I feel like I can't seem to switch between my feelings. to switch between concert mode and stage mode. I asked kamenashi-kun about this, and he told me that he always has schedules packed back to back, so it's alright for him, and I thought well yes it's alright...
baru: when I was at rehearsal, I thought you were doing fine. there wasn't any strange or uncomfortable feeling at all. I thought there wasn't anything the director wanted that tegoshi couldn't do. I did think you managed to do it smoothly.
tego: thank you very much.
kame: for this musical this time round, there's kamenashi kazuya, there's shibutani subaru, there's tegoshi yuya, and so each of us has to make this happen. but we should go beyond just concentrating on our own roles 100%, since this stage is shared by all of us. if there's something you want to do, just do it. of course, there are certain things that we cannot change. and this time round...well the 3 of us are originally idols, really (laughs).
baru: seriously, what are we? (laughs)
kame: well the 3 of us are idols alright, but this is a story of how 3 young men each took their own paths and eventually became adults. we became adults at different times. but it seems like there's a very strong bond that ties us together. that basic bond has never changed till today.
tego: if you place kamenashi-kun on one side and subaru-kun on the other, I'd be smack in the middle.
kame: tegoshi is supposed to be some sort of mediator between the two of us, but he ends up making things more messy instead (laughs).
tego: so now you've placed yourself against me? I just wanted to make everything okay.
kame: it backfired, totally backfired. so this basic part doesn't change, but with each scene, your impressions will change greatly. each episode presented this time has more layers than before.
baru: the actual thing is really soon, isn't it.
kame: I didn't realise that at all.
baru: but we'll be fine.
tego: where on earth did such confidence come from...
baru: I did work with kame previously before, but it really has been a few years since then. becauses this is a work that kame has been doing every year. but what sort of feelings I have towards the final product is a matter of attitude. and how you strive to do better in your work is also a matter of how you feel about it. so we'll be fine, I say. if we do it with all we've got.
kame: that's true, I think the same way. so that means that if we hold good attitudes during practices, and work hard, then we'll be fine.
tego: we can't give any less of ourselves, isn't it. since it's the first time I'm joining this musical, and I haven't perfected everything during the rehearsals, so I can't really imagine how I'll be like when it's the actual thing. but what I'm certain of is that on the first day of performance, after the curtain is lifted, I will have fun playing my part. whether is it in dancing or singing or both, I will look forward to them, and look forward to the play...
kame: (in an extremely natural and normal voice) please give us your support.
baru: (in an extremely strong and forceful voice) with all we've got! we will strive hard no matter what! that's what I think. please give us your support!!
kame & tego: unn fufufufu~~(laughs)
kame: (to the winkup staff) in order to show the difference between how subaru-kun and I have said the exact same thing, do change the font accordingly, okay?
tego: then please print my line in a smaller font (laughs). I will work hard. I will get through this.

kamenashi x shibutani x tegoshi - WE ARE DREAM BOYS TRIO
running for about 2 months from 4th september, making it a dream musical is kamenashi kazuya, shibutani subaru and tegoshi yuya. the 3 who act together for the first time have a 'talk battle' with us!! from talking about each other's personalities to their impressions of the group, we present this battle that has non-stop action!
battle 1: about the groups -- coming from 3 groups, the groups' characters are clearly seen!
kame: it's the first time we've been interviewed as a trio like this, isn't it. it's an entirely fresh feeling since 3 of us from 3 different groups have come together to participate in this musical.
baru: it's kinda like my first time talking to tegoshi too, right!?
tego: uhm yes that's right...
baru: I just thought about it today, but tegoshi-kun is rather cute, yes? (laughs)
tego: really!? (laughs) I went for a kanjani 8 concert, and the group seems to be able to do absolutely anything and everything, and I thought you guys are totally awesome. the group has cool songs, short skits and a band too.
kame: yeah precisely! recently I went for an eito concert too, and it seemed so fun there. and the skit in the middle was something like 30 minutes long?
baru: no, the eito ranger section is around 40 minutes long (laughs).
kame: after you know the normal subaru-kun, you would think that the super high tension guy on stage isn't the same guy. there's this huge gap between his real self and that stage self. NEWS has this fresh, refreshing sort of image. (laughs).
baru: yes indeed. everyone's always laughing, so refreshing! whereas on the other hand, KAT-TUN has a cool image.
tego: yeah they do pirate themed concerts. if NEWS does pirate themes, we'd probably come off as really weak pirates. (laughs)
baru: I did some shows with KAT-TUN before, so I feel closer to them.
kame: when we were in osaka, we all went for a meal together, yeah? and then we went to the same gym after that too.
baru: oh yes we did.
tego: this time I will work hard too! since this is a rare chance for the 3 of us to work together, I feel that this is something important.
baru: ahh, he's so cute! (laughs)
tego: when I debuted, my image's colour was generally pink.
baru: mine was...red.
kame: what was I? (checks with the staff) it seems like at that time, KAT-TUN was pretty messy. (laughs)
battle 2: enthusiasm for the musical -- the 3 of them make the musical flashier!
kame: the practices are only starting now, but I feel that the musical that the 3 of us will put up will be a real showy one.
baru: you wonder how far the 3 of us can go with this musical, isn't it.
tego: every year's dream boys has the same basic storyline, but since they've taken the effort to gather us together, we should achieve what the producers ask of us, and I want to do something new as well! even though it's my first time on the team, I want to do something new too (laughs).
baru: oh yes, that's important too.
kame: everyone's busy, so the rehearsals are packed back to back, and I can feel the actual performance date drawing closer.
baru: when the actual thing comes we'll be able to do it, so we'll be fin!
kame: when it was eito and KAT-TUN doing it, the rehearsal time was very short too. but amazingly we managed to pull our act together pretty fast. before the actual show, we were together everyday.
tego: this is actually the first time I'm doing a stageplay the orthodox way.
baru: that's okay. even though you have planned lines to say, after you grasp the nuance of the whole musical and your character in the musical, you can just say the lines as you like (laughs).
kame: it's like you end up living in the world of the musical itself.
battle 3: their big dreams -- the 3 of them want to form a group
tego: so do you have any advice for the first timer here?
baru: in order to concentrate during the actual performance, it's important to relax in your dressing room!
kame: do make sure you've got stuff that helps to relieve anything you have, etc. when the actual thing starts, the dressing room becomes a place you live in for the day, so it's important to have stuff to refresh yourself.
baru: it'll be nice if I bring my laptop along with me.
tego: you could listen to music and stuff like that.
kame: (points to tegoshi's music player, eye drops and handphone) if you've got these 3 things, you'll be fine.
tego: eye drop too? I've got really dry eyes, so this is something I've got to have. (laughs)
baru: in any case, let's work hard together!
tego: yes!
baru: so since the 3 of us are 1 team from now on, saying that the 3 of us are fantastic...let's say it!
tego: when the 3 of us stand on stage, there's this chemistry that works between us, and I think that's wonderful. it'll be great if we could bring that to the audience.
kame: so, we'll call this unit CHEMISTRY?
tego: ahaha there's already such a group...
kame: then, we'll leave this to the leader, subaru-kun!
baru: oh no, I thought our leader was tegoshi-kun (laughs).
kame: right. so leader tegoshi-kun. please present to us our name!
tego: erm, wouldn't it be better if you gave me some time to at least even think about it!? (laughs)
kame: alright, then after you've thought about it, we'll present it on our last show in osaka, and our goal is for the 3 of us to release our debut MD.
baru: releasing in MD format is a pretty new idea, huh (laughs).

the gorgeous 3 dream starts now... -- the 3 units' representatives have a heart-to-heart talk about the upcoming musical, [dream boys].
we gather the main cast for the musical [dream boys] that starts from 4th september! do take a close look at the awkward but enthusiastic talk that happens between the 3 people who aren't usually gathered together like this!
-- after this trio was decided upon, what did you think?
kame: I thought, uwahhh what an extravagant cast. it's so rare for somebody from kanjani 8, NEWS and KAT-TUN to come out and work together as one.
baru: I was really looking forward to this! for me, I had some nostalgic feelings about going back to doing [dream boys], but I had some fresh feelings at the same time. that's how I felt.
tego: as for me, I did watch the 2006 production when KAT-TUN and kanjani 8 acted together.
baru: you did?
tego: yep. and then I thought, it's an incredible thing that these two groups share the same stage. and I could feel that mutual spirit of fighting and getting along sort of thing.
kame: to be told something like that directly to me makes me feel a little shy... but this time tegoshi's joining us.
tego: that's right. when I first heard about it, I was really shocked. the 3 of us have never done anything together before, isn't it. so as to what sort of chemistry we will have, I'm still really nervous about it. even talking together like this is something really amazing.
-- how long has it been since kamenashi-kun and subaru-kun last acted together?
baru: we do appear together at year end music programmes, but if you're talking strictly about work, the last one was the [dream boys] 3 years ago.
kame: but because we had been acting together since the production with tackey in it, so the intensity was there. although it's true that that production was done in 2004...
baru: that's right. my impression of kame is the strongest in that very first production. at that time, both KAT-TUN and kanjani 8 were both at the pre-debut stage, and we really fought to make sure it's either we die or they die.
kame: that's really how it was.
baru: so after that was over, we both ended up debuting, and now we get to stand on the same stage again, and it makes me happy. I think we can see how each other has grown and changed through this musical production.
kame: honestly, my strongest impressions of subaru come from the junior days. at that time I didn't really have any face-to-face interaction with him, and I mostly backdanced instead. and then after we debuted we became really busy, and so we would meet only once or twice every year.
baru: that's awfully true.
tego: the first time I got to sing officially was at the Jr. corner of KAT-TUN's concert.
kame: eh? I see.
tego: this might be exaggerating things a little, but as I watched kamenashi-kun and the rest perform right in front of me, I could see this sparkle and aura around them. so with such seniors, I was given the chance to share the same stage for [summary] (2004), and then now I'm given this opportunity to work together on the same level. I really think that this is something amazing.
kame: and it's your first time working with subaru-kun?
tego: yes. my only contact with eito is when I watch their concerts and stageplays, so I've always only watched and listened to them. I've always thought that they've can do a wide range of things, that they can be cool, yet funny too, and that's incredible. like earlier in the concert they can be playing the guitar in this really cool way, and then next thing you know, they're making you laugh so hard.
baru: is that so. well, I've said hello to tegoshi-san before, but we've never really talked properly, isn't it.
tego: yes. ...uh, did just add a '-san' to my name? (laughs)
baru: oh oh I thought since it's the first time we're talking like this I should. nahhh just kidding. (laughs) but I think it'll be good if we could use this musical as a starting point, and build our relationship with one another.
tego: please take care of me! it may be rude of me, but let's go eat together some time!
baru: no problem. let's go some day.
-- so since the musical is called [dream boys], could you tell us your own dream?
tego: well next year the soccer world cup will start again, so I want to go to south africa to watch it! I'm a person who loves soccer to bits!
kame: ohh that's nice~ as for me, I want to live in a biiiiiiiig house! a house where all my family members can just relax in the living room would be really nice. I want a large living room!
baru: I want to see the whole kamenashi family chilling together. (laughs)
tego: ahahahaha (laughs)
baru: I have a big dream too. I have boxing scenes in this musical, and so I want to beat kamenashi for once! I think a lot about how nice it would be to win, because so far, I lose to him in every match. (laughs)
kame: okay, so after you win, you can do the rest of the show!
baru: well well well. if that's the case, then I'm doing it. I've been secretly training to do that. (laughs)
tego: ahaha (laughs) you're serious, aren't you.
baru: isn't that obvious! but if you want to know what I really really really dream about, I really really want to be popular with girls! if I win a match with kamenashi, then I want many many people to fuss over me. so I want to be really popular!
together: (burst into laughter)
baru: so I'm looking forward to how this match ends up (laughs). beyond that, I would like to really cherish this rare grouping, be it in twos or in threes.
tego: I would never have imagined this either, this extravagant lineup.
kame: so what sort of show would result from each of our contributions? please await patiently!

KAT-TUN secret face vol.41 - DREAM BOYS SPECIAL
friendship between the boys are developed in their room in the middle of the night!? the immensely acclaimed musical [dream boys] goes on from 4-29 september in tokyo, and 13-25 october in osaka. and there! the main cast, kamenashi kazuya, shibutani subaru and tegoshi yuya form a trio!! so, what sort of stories are going to fly out!?
-- so [dream boys] is going to start at the teikoku theatre on 4th september. when did everyone know that they were going to star in this musical?
baru: it was during one of our official discussion meetings for kanjani 8's concert tour, so probably around may, I think.
tego: I was told in the middle of the rehearsals for tegomasu's tour. so soon enough I would have to face both the actual tegomasu concerts while rehearsing for this musical. I didn't want to neglect either, so I thought a lot about whether I was able to switch between the two mentally and many many other things, like what sort of musicals I've been in, and I thought that getting me to do this musical was a good experience.
kame: actually when last year's run ended, somehow I was told that there might be another one next year. but as to confirmation of the whole thing, it was during KAT-TUN's tokyo dome concert rehearsals, so that's about may.
-- this is the first time shibutani-san and kamenashi-san have worked together since 2006.
kame: subaru-kun has always been that senior I can count on, so since this is the 2nd time we're doing this together, I feel really safe.
baru: I'm the one who's feeling safe! although it's true that I'm older in terms of age, but mentally I think kame's more like my older brother. (laughs)
-- and this is the first time tegoshi-san has participated in this musical?
if you talk about just stage stuff, 2 years ago I did do a stageplay at the tokyo globe theatre, but this is the first time I'm doing a stage production that has so many performances. I went to watch kei-chan performing in [high school musical], and after that I thought, I want to do that too. but I don't really know much about musicals, and honestly before the tegomasu concerts end, I don't think my head can really switch modes well enough... in any case, I will have to work really hard on this.
kame: this time we really don't have much time.
tego: that's because kamenashi-kun has also been on tour, isn't it.
kame: it's hard to find a date for rehearsal when all 3 of us can make it, so it's important that we communicate with one another. and subaru-kun is especially shy. you weren't even looking in tegoshi's direction just now, right!? (laughs)
baru: uhmm...it's embarassing to look so I don't look. (laughs)
tego: er...actually I'm pretty shy too.
baru: serious?! that's nice to know...
kame: well from now on you have 2 months of seeing each other almost everyday, so I assume your relationship with one another will change over time?!
baru: indeed, kame's the big brother of us all. he says such wonderful things.
-- so, before you all got to act with one another, what impressions did you have of one another?
baru: my biggest impression of tegoshi is "miso soup!!" and he's also somebody who comes to kanjani 8 concerts often!
tego: hahaha (laughs)
kame: the last time I worked with tegoshi was [summary]. but this is really the first time I'm working closely with him on the same project. and this may just be my own impression, but I find that tegoshi is a very delicate person.
tego: how should I respond... (laughs) you probably have that sort of idea because I'm quite quiet and wait for instructions, isn't it. I don't really have any contact with subaru-kun, and I've practically never really talked to him before...I have a rocker image of him. as for kamenashi-kun, I have an image of him being KAT-TUN's next leader. AH!! you were wondering why I have your email address. we must have exchanged emails when we were working on [summary].
kame: ahh, that's right!
baru: actually, I have neither of your names inside my mobile phone.
kame & tego: ehh, you mean we haven't told you yet?
baru: well I just haven't keyed in your names. well then again, that also means I neither have your numbers nor email addresses. (laughs)
kame & tego: (burst into violent laughter)
-- so what similarities do you think your onstage character has with your actual personality?
kame: well, our characters are named subaru, yuya and kazuya respectively, and I think there are many similarities. for me, I suppose it's the level of sluttiness!? (laughs) with regards to the acting, as the story progresses into the 2nd half of the script, kazuya's heart becomes burdened with more and more things, and I think it would be great if I could express that difference well.
baru: I feel very at ease and comfortable acting as a boxer.
kame: ehh!? you do boxing?
baru: hmm!!? not particularly, really (laughs). that's just a joke...as kame mentioned earlier, the character's names are the same as our own. it's true that there are many areas that are similar... I think the character will be built along the way as the rehearsals continue until the actual show.
tego: I guess the similar part for me is the fact that I want to be a top musican (laughs). and also the part about me making peace between seniors and other colleagues when they have disagreements. in actual fact, I do that in NEWS too (laughs).
-- so did subaru-san and kamenashi-san often go out and eat together when you acted together previously?
kame: at that time it was really hard to find a time when both of us could make it, so we didn't get to eat together.
baru: our schedules really didn't match back then. but 3 years later I'm still annoyed by you! (laughs)
kame: hahaha (laughs) it's been 3 years, hasn't it. this time we're definitely going out to eat together. AH!! how about each of us take turns to bring all of us out to your favourite stall at least once within these 2 months?
tego: uhm, I...I'm not really into food, so I don't really have any favourite food place. so I don't know how I'd do this...
baru: now that you mention it, I really don't know which place to bring you guys too either. what about kame?
kame: for me, I've been really interested in good food for the past 1-2 years. okay, so I'll be in charge of bringing you guys out to eat. subaru-kun can be in charge of bringing us to karaoke.
baru: ah, in that case, there's this place in kobe that's fantastic! leave it to me! as for tegoshi, we can have a takoyaki party in his dressing room.
tego: that sounds doable.
kame: I've made takoyaki before, but I burnt it really badly and it was terrible.
baru: then I guess we can't have takoyaki party. (laughs)
tego: ... I'd uh, think about it.
-- this time there's a performance in osaka as well. it seems like it'll be loads of fun there.
baru: we'll all squish into one room. (laughs)
kame: you mean at the hotel?
baru: yep.
tego: you mean we'll be sleeping in the same room?
baru: of course. that's what I was thinking of doing. what about you guys? but I suppose there would be a maximum of 2 beds, so every night we'll have to use scissors, paper, stone to decide who will have to end up on the same bed. (laughs)
kame: ...we'll have none of that. (laughs) if we really all share one room, we'll get an extra bed in.
-- it'll be like 3 of you are brothers, isn't it. but how far apart are the 3 of you in terms of age?
kame: I'm right in the middle.
tego: I'm 21, kamenashi-kun is 23.
baru: I'm 27, but as I said earlier, kame and tegoshi seem more like my elder brothers. I'm more like the youngest child. (laughs)
kame: by the way, tegoshi, what's your blood type?
tego: B.
kame: I'm B too. even though people always think I'm an A when I'm at work. what about subaru-kun?
baru: I'm an O.
kame: oh so that means when 3 of us are together, subaru-kun is going to have the hardest time. because Os assign duties to the Bs, so they give off this feeling of being the eldest son.
baru: but I'm the youngest.
kame: are you the youngest in your real family?
baru: I'm the second son!!
tego: ehhhhhhh (laughs)
kame: neither here nor there...(laughs) you're neither the eldest nor the youngest!! what about tegoshi?
tego: I'm an only child.
baru: see, a really remarkable sort of image suits him just right!
kame: so you still call your mother 'mummy'?
tego: in the past I did. now I call her my mother.
baru: I see. I still call my mother 'mummy' till today though.
kame & tego: ehh~ we couldn't tell!!
baru: really? but I'm just kidding. (laughs) but I've never called her 'mummy' before. it's a bit weird to call her that, right? mom is fine. mom.
-- so have you already firmed up your character?
kame: we've been doing that since the rehearsals started, and we have many ideas, and it seems like the character is a little more firmed up now. but I don't really have time to firm up my body (cries), and so 1 week before the actual performance, I'll go to the gym and buff up.
baru: I don't deliberately go buff up. I want to show the audience the size I really am.
tego: at our first official meeting I said, "I don't want to say any horrible lines." and I also made a request to use words that the audience wouldn't have difficulty understanding. oh and I also told them that I won't go naked. (laughs)
baru: but we're kinda not wearing much throughout the musical, you know. (laughs)
-- are there any new challenges of any sort?
kame: the two of them are really good at singing, so I suppose with that talent they can do anything pretty well.
tego: I only watched takizawa-kun's [dream boy] once, but my impression of subaru's singing is very deep. I heard that the reason for choosing me this time round was simply because of 'singing', and so I want to really show my musical talents this time. in fact that was an opinion all 3 of us agreed with at our first official meeting, right?
baru: yep. I'm looking forward to the songs.
-- so lastly, please say something to all your fans who are going for the musical!
tego: what sort of musical would the 3 of us who are of different ages and personalities put up? you will have loads of fun too, so please come and see us!
baru: please support us!
kame: I think the reason why we can continue with this production this year as well is really thanks to all of you out there who support us. as the years go on, I do change as well, so I want to show you what I can do now. please do come and enjoy yourself at the newly evolved production of [dream boys]!

kamenashi kazuya, shibutani subaru, tegoshi yuya [DREAM BOYS] special interview!
the 3 personalities head out to the dream boys' stage!
we present to you an interview with the 3 actors who appear in the musical brought back by popular demand, [DREAM BOYS]! the members have changed 180 degrees, and they tell us that they think this time's [dream boys] will be something new, and they talk about the attitude they have towards the stage. (interview done in the beginning of august.)
even though there are few rehearsals where all 3 of us are gathered, it makes it more refreshing...
kame: even though the last time I performed with subaru-kun was 3 years ago, before doing [dream boys], I didn't really get any chance to talk to him, so this stageplay gave me a chance to really talk to him.
baru: that's right. I'm really looking forward to this time's performance too. because this is a different production based on the one done 3 years ago, I feel like I'm starting over again.
tego: this is a first for me in all aspects. for example, with regards to singing, even though I do sing in a group, it's the first time I'm singing in twos and threes, with people from other groups, and certainly my first time singing in a musical...I'm nervous.
kame: tegoshi, is this the first time you're doing a musical that lasts 1 month too?
tego: yes it's my first time. when the rehearsals started, I thought of so many questions. I have no idea about the teikoku theatre and things like that.
kame: teikoku theatre is a theatre with much history behind it. you can be good friends with the famous "grandma" of the staff there too, you know. (laughs)
tego: I've heard rumours that there are interesting staff there. (laughs)
baru: also, the mobile phone reception there isn't very good.
kame: compared to 3 years ago, the reception has improved. it seems like they've attached an antenna.
baru: is that so!
kame: oh yes. (laughs) when I heard that subaru-kun was going to appear in this year's production, I felt relieved. even though subaru-kun is the senior, he makes the tension between each person softer and I'm grateful for that. even though I worked together with tegoshi in the 2004 production [summary], but because I didn't get to really talk to him directly like this, I think subaru-kun wants to help us draw closer to one another.
tego: today is only the 2nd time we're all gathered together like this, isn't it. (laughs) but somehow it does feel like we're getting closer. so it's like if we just let this whole encounter with one another slip by, we wouldn't know anything about each other, right? (laughs)
kame: because there are really few rehearsals that gather the 3 of us together, it'll be nice if we could become closer to one another, sort of thing, isn't it.
tego: but because the number of performances are so many, and the chances of all 3 of us being in the same rehearsal are very few, on the contrary I think that it's good to look forward to each meeting with a fresh new feeling. I look at it from the positive side of things.
baru: because we'll be doing the same thing over and over for an entire month, somehow you'd get used to doing those things, and your body can remember what to do even subconsciously. and while in the midst of all that, I think if the 3 of us can do this with much excitement and good feelings about the whole thing, we'll discover new things, and that's good, isn't it.
what happened this time? I really have no idea!
kame: by the way, I feel like making a sentence with the short-form for dream boys, 'do-ri-bo'. (laughs) so I'll take 'do', subaru-kun can take 'ri', and then tegoshi can take 'bo'. so I start with 'do'. hmmmm..."dou ni ka nandarou (somehow or another, isn't it)". please carry on.
baru: I take 'ri'!? ....... "rinpa sen (lymph gland)". please continue. our lymph glands are very important things.
kame: then tegoshi-san, please deliver the punch line!
baru: here's where the really important ending comes in. (laughs)
tego: eh, as in I say something to wrap the rest up?
kame: tegoshi's so spontaneous, isn't he?
tegoshi: oh no I don't think so at all.
kame: so says the spontaneous one.
tego: no, I really don't think so.
baru: whatever, just continue with the line. somehow or another, we'll make it, our lymph glands. next, 'bo'!
tego: ...THE lymph glands!
kame & baru: no no no no no!
kame: you can't just change somebody else's line (laughs)
baru: come up with something of your own! (laughs)
tego: okay. ...bonbaa shicha dame desu (don't be clumsy)!
kame & baru: NO GOOD! (burst into uncontrollable laughter)
tego: then, don't let your lymph gland swell...
baru: not allowed!
tego: but it'll be atrocious to be clumsy!
baru: we need to be more careful, sort of thing.
kame: clumsy as in like going onstage while you're still half asleep?!
tego:...uhm, the term 'bonbaa' carries various meanings...
kame: but if you crash around during your ad-lib part it's okay. there are still parts of ourselves that we can't see, but I think this time round we'll be able to see new things about ourselves. it's thanks to all of you out there that the tickets have been sold out, so we'll make sure we're not going to crash about onstage!
baru: when we crash into something we'll end the show.
tego: then we'll be unable to use our voice!
kame: that's true. humidifiers are very important things.
tego: we still don't know what the 3 of us grouped together can do, but you fans are definitely going to have loads of fun!
baru: we're going on with the show like we're going to make the audience crash, so please come and see us.
kame: it does seem like we're going to make the audience crash. because we're having ad-lib boxing scenes (laughs). basically I'm fighting with subaru-kun, and even if tegoshi doesn't join us we'll continue to no end.
tego: and you're nodding your head!?
baru: so in this manner, let's do 'doribo' without knowing what on earth happened. (laughs)
more on the 'doribo' sentence
kamenashi - DOu ni ka nandarou (somehow we'll make it)
all this time there hasn't been any large changes in the members or the production itself, so even though our schedules are busy, we managed to make it. but this time the members have suddenly changed, and the script was written only when our official meetings began. so the only thing I can say is, "somehow or another, we'll make it!" (laughs) but there are many more new songs and dances added on, so I think we'll get a completely new 'doribo'.
shibutani - RInpa sen (lymph glands)
since it's a one month musical, our lymph glands are very important. if our body breaks down, the first thing to go would be our lymph glands. if you think your glands are swelling up, then it's better to cool it down loads, yeah? (laughs) it helps to fight against the bad things in our body, so the lymph glands are really important. my glands swelled up for the last two productions, so this time I want to make sure they don't swell up.
tegoshi - BOnbaa shi cha dame desu (don't be clumsy)
it's not good to let your lymph glands swell up. and it is atrocious if you're clumsy! when standing on stage in this 1 month of performing, there are things to fight everyday. the show will have to end if your voice goes bad, so we have to take care of our throats ourselves. so while taking care, I want to work hard while making this 1 month fun!

kamenashi kazuya . shibutani subaru . tegoshi yuya [DREAM BOYS]
the keyword today is MUSIC
from the 3 immensely popular groups today, KAT-TUN, kanjani 8 and NEWS come 3 members who are established as vocalists, and they form [DREAM BOYS]! it seems like the keyword of this year's "doribo" (dream boys) is music.
kamenashi kazuya
the main theme that runs through all the [DREAM BOYS] I've done so far hasn't changed, but even having said so, this time the real draw is the fact that us 3, myself, shibutani and tegoshi, are doing it together. the fact that 1 member from each of the three groups, kat-tun, kanjani 8 and news are gathered together, probably exudes immense appeal, and even I myself am looking forward to see what we will express to the audience. in the first place, there isn't a particular mould that the 3 of us fit into, and between the 3 of us, we can do this, and we can do that too, and so we'll probably be able to achieve a wide range of capabilities. when I first had official meetings to talk about the cast, I actually did have several other plans. and one of those plans was deciding on the 3 of us. if the 3 of us did it, then it'll probably be pretty interesting. last year, I did it together with koki, who's also from kat-tun, and it was a pretty comfortable arrangement. yabu worked hard too, and so I think we were able to come together as one. but this time round, I want to break out of that, and that's the kind of feeling I have. if I do that, then I'll have a brand new set of feelings as I finish this musical's run.
tegoshi's case, especially. before the casting was decided, I've never really talked to him before, and so he was like an unknown figure to me. all I knew was that his forte was singing, and so I really looked forward to that. subaru-kun's forte is also singing, and I had the privilege of working with him on a different production of [dream boys] before, so I felt at ease, and then later I was thinking, after these few years of not working together, what would us working together again produce? and I look forward to that.
so after thinking about all that, the production this time round remains a blank. I think the 3 of us each have our own sensitive areas. well yes I'm saying that I'm a delicate person too (laughs). how to put this. it's like there isn't this feeling like any of us has a burning desire to do something. so we can only see who wins when we're put to the test. it's when each of us carry that character onstage, capture our own sensitivities, and interact with one another during the actual show, isn't it. the character I'm playing is in a situation where he is unable to move on his own, so how would subaru-kun and tegoshi push me in the story? as a victim, what advantages will I have? I look forward to our first show.
shibutani subaru
my character in this musical is the boxer who goes against kamenashi. previously I was also playing the same role, and so that's the part that may pull me down, but that's good. it's basically the same, but it's the way I portray the character that's different. my age has when I was playing the previous role is different from my age now. I want to make a 'subaru' character with the way I am now. [dream boys] is not just a script. even though there are character names, these names are real names, and there are other elements of a show that can be seen clearly in this musical. and even though I've played many roles, when I'm playing a role that has the name subaru as well, the audience will be unable to erase their image of me, isn't it. I guess I could take that as something good. there would be little need for me to act. I want to communicate to the audience via my character, who shibutani subaru is.
speaking of which, to be honest, why did [dream boys] choose me? I'm still perturbed by this. when I first heard about it I was shocked. but after many meetings with my boss and the musical's staff, what I understood was that this time round, they wanted the music to be the main focus. so after I understood that, I was really happy to be chosen as a cast member, and my focus changed too. I've always been allowed to be the main vocals for kanjani 8 and for several bands, so this time I'll make full use of that. so after thinking about that, I began to ask myself, so with all the music experience that I have so far, how could I revive this musical? I began to question the true value of my experiences...I thought, would there be a place to share what I've learnt? with regards to the singing, I want to do it believing that I am able to. also, I want to do something that just the 3 of us, kamenashi, tegoshi and myself, are able to do. compared to kamenashi's charm, I don't have anything at all. so I'll try not to get in the way (laughs), and it'll be nice if we could unite and work together to draw out the audience. as for tegoshi, it's my first time really talking to him, but I think he's someone with strong vocals, and I'm really looking forward to working with him. it is precisely because we're not a usual group, and there's a distance between us 3, that I feel that we can put up something interested. to me, this is going to be an extremely valuable exprience.
tegoshi yuya
I've always wanted to be a pro musician who is popular internationally, so this role was something that I've always dreamed of doing. on top of that, I'm placed alongside kamenashi-kun and subaru-kun, who are up against each other, so in comparison, my presence would seem more irrelevant? this is the first time I'm trying a musical, but beyond my attitude towards it, and above everything else, I'm really looking forward to what kamenashi-kun, subaru-kun and myself can do for this time's musical. we're all from the same artiste management company, and our ages are pretty close, but we've got different styles, and we've never collaborated like this before. what sort of [dream boys] would the 3 of us produce? I'm looking forward to things that are beyond my imagination. also, because this time round they want to emphasise on the music, and while thinking along those lines, they chose me to be part of the cast, and so I feel really honoured to have been chosen.
my image of my other 2 cast members... basically, kamenashi-kun is a person who shines. there's this sparkly feel about him. I feel that there's this aura, this sparkle about him, but it kind of attacks you? but I think somebody who has such an aggressive aura around him is a really cool person. subaru-kun isn't just involved in kanjani 8, but also involved in rock band sort of activities, so my image of him is that of a musician. I really love singing too, and so I've always wanted to try singing with subaru-kun. when you hear subaru-kun singing, you feel like it presses against you, and I realised that when I sing, the colour of my tone is the complete opposite. but I think that what I want to do, is probably close to what subaru-kun wants to do. but that's just what I think.
there's a story, there are lines, and there's dancing involved, and even though that makes a musical, I think it's really nice if it could be a deep musical experience. we haven't decided yet, but the 3 of us will be singing new songs, I suppose, so one can look forward to that. the cast has changed, so I think the whole [dream boys] itself will be different too. or rather, I want to be able to change it. I hope to make it a lifesize realistic production. it's probably too early to say this, but if we accomplish all that this musical and its rehearsals require of us, and we transform it into something (wonderful), I have a premonition that we'll have an amazing sense of achievement.
