congratulations to the two dear boys on their 7th anniversary! so here I've translated one article for each year they were active. I've tried to credit all the people who scanned them, but I really have no idea where I got 2 of the article's scans from.
for crosstalks, RED is takki, BLUE is tsubasa.
2002.12 winkup taiwan (post debut tokyo dome concert) --
letsgetfunkasy (autumnhysterics)'s scans
so this is a short interview after they had their hatachi con. is there somebody with the original japanese scans? I have this really itchy feeling that there's something slightly funky about their mandarin translations so I was hoping somebody out there has the originals.
One and One - takizawa hideaki & imai tsubasa
after completing their debut concert at tokyo dome,
the two of them can take a breather. while talking about their current situation,
somehow the topic moves towards romance...
the content this time is something you'd totally want to see.
takizawa hideaki
for the concert this time round, I wrote a song that is related to romance. the title is [894], but pronounced as [hakushi], sounds suspicious, doesn't it (laughs)! I want it to have several meanings hidden within it, like either 'dying without guilt' or a more direct translation of its pronounciation, 'white paper'. 'so isn't that a lot like [ki.se.ki]?', you say? don't put me down like that~ (laughs) last month I said that 'recently I've been thinking a lot about humans in general'. and so I also started thinking about romance. I was thinking, wouldn't it be good to write my thoughts on this into a song? so after I wrote it, I passed it to the staff to see, but they said, "we have no idea what you're writing about." (laughs) I suppose those who heard it at the concert have even lesser clue, so I shall explain it here! but I'd like to make this clear first, that this is not my personal experience (laughs)! the main character is a man who got dumped, and is afraid of a new love, and that while being in love is a happy and blissful thing, making it last long is very difficult. whereas on the other hand, when you want to split, all you need to say is 'let's break up' and then that's it. the chorus has a part that says 'love can disappear in an instant. I'm only left with a blank past, 894...'. I wanted to express something like 'I've split up with my girlfriend, and what I'm left with is pain, am I to live on meaninglessly...?' of course, time cannot be completely meaningless, but there's that feeling like there's a hole in your heart, right? that's the sort of feelings I wanted to express via [894].
writing lyrics is so tough~! at first it went on quite smoothly, but then halfway through I got stuck, and I ended up completing it only after several days, and the content became more incoherent. there's even one section that was written when I was staying at the disney sea hotel, and was totally affected by the power of disney, so that part has a 'ginza' feel, and became sounded more like some teenage girl's romance story (laughs). it's just impossible to make me write my full opinion on anything within the 5 minute limit of a song! at least give me 5 hours...or something like that? what sort of song would a song that lasts 5 hours be like (laughs)? having said so, it's not like I really want everybody to understand exactly what I think~! I seldom really talk passionately about my views, and even if I mention them, I'd just say, "I just have such an opinion~"! so even if the other side doesn't agree, it doesn't matter. with regards to romance, I think the same way too. for example, if somebody says to his partner, "you should change this part of yourself!", I think it's not quite right. wouldn't it be just fine to like the other party just as he/she is even with all the flaws? if I was told something like that by my partner, I would like to ask her, "don't you like me like that?" if one could correct his own flaws just because somebody else pointed it out, then I think everyone in this world would become perfect, no? (laughs) there would be some who can understand my point of view, but there would probably be others who don't, right? but it's alright~it's precisely because people have different views, it makes the world a more interesting place!
imai tsubasa
some time ago I had a dream, and it was a fantastic dream, because it made me feel so blessed~! in my dream, I was having a date with a girl! the girl is somebody I don't know, and I don't remember what she looks like anymore, but in any case, I was really happy in my dream! 2 of us went shopping, talked about interesting things, and our time spent together made me feel so blessed... and the time that my manager chose to wake me up was just nice, he didn't wake me up in the middle of my dream, but he only woke me up at the end of a scenario. if it were a drama, it would be at the part where the director says, "okay we'll insert the commercials here." that sort of timing (laughs). so I didn't think to myself 'why did you wake me up now...', and I think it's a good way to wake up (laughs). don't you think dreams are such a mystery? people whom you would never imagine would appear would really appear in your dreams, and you would interact with that person, right? if you're having a romantic sort of dream, then you could suddenly fall in love with the other person (laughs). but if I were bullied in my dream, I would be upset and think, 'why did you have to do something so horrible in my dream?' (laughs) who was that who appeared in my dream? is it somebody I've met before, or is it somebody my brain conjured up... unfortunately I don't remember her face at all, so even if I bump into her along the streets I wouldn't recognise her (laughs).
when you hear about what I've been doing lately, then you'd totally understand why my daily life seems so slack (laugh). but ever since I had that dream, my hopes of falling in love has been increasing loads (laughs)! hmmm? how I court a girl? ohhh~I think I'm not one of those who would confess immediately. there's that sort of person, right? the sort who would immediately ask, "so do you want to go out with me?" the first time they meet. I'm the sort who can't go out with somebody I don't really know very well. I would only think of confessing if we've talked a lot, and I feel that 'oh this person's not bad! I like her', then only would my feelings deepen. so if at this point in time, the other party has the same feelings about me, it would be perfect. however, if I get rejected, I would just let it go. being in love isn't a one-sided affair, the other side must have the same feelings too. if the other party doesn't think I'm the right one for her, no matter how hard I try, it's not going to work (laughs). but I would still be secretly upset for a while (laughs)! after I had that dream, I really thought seriously to myself, "ahhhh~~I really want to be in love!!" but I've already calmed down! after all, romance isn't something that comes when you want it to come (laughs)! I will continue to wait for that day when the girl destined for me appears in my life!
2003.09 potato (takki stars in boku dake no madonna, and tsubasa no to base first starts) --
amarylliszai 's scans
the summary says it all.
takizawa hideaki
if you ask takizawa what he thinks about so much it's also in his dreams, it's got to be the filming of his drama, [boku dake no madonna]. being surrounded by close colleagues who have fun and get really excited, it seems that he goes through each day in a fantastic and fulfilling way.
the drama filming (boku dake no madonna) this time round is going really smoothly, but my only enemy is the rain (laughs)! it's the rainy season so it can't really be helped, but we keep having to pause filming because of the rain when we're on location, so I'd feel really vexed during that time (laughs). I think they must be having loads of fun at filming now. I said this last month, but the actors and the staff are getting along really well. before that, whenever any of us go for a meal together, we'd decide who pays by scissors, paper, stone. but lately, the shopkeeper would choose somebody, and this has become our treating system (laughs). with such a thrilling system, you would think we would never become best of friends, isn't it (laughs). also, beyond work, we still go out with the staff. because lately we've been wrapping up the filming early, everyone goes for karaoke together. and because this has never happened before in my acting life, I got a shock (laughs). I got so excited~ by the way, I sang kondo masahiko's [yuuyaka no uta] then. and I sang it really passionately (laughs).
and because it was so fun everyday, even though we were so busy filming, I didn't feel the stress at all. the character I was playing, kyouichi, had many feelings similar to my own, and so the director told me to just act the character out freely, so I could act freely without pressure. I did mess up some lines, but because it fit in with kyouichi's real feelings it was OK. initially I did ask the director, "is it okay to do it like that?" and he told me to act in the most comfortable way I liked, and so it was alright. to the people watching the actual thing, I won't explain that 'kyouichi is such and such a person', because it's more fun to find out for yourself by watching it. I think it's better if people who watch it can form their own ideas about kyouichi.
what do I want to do in my private time? I can't seem to let go of ideas related to the sea. it's a place where I can feel summer, and even if I don't swim, I still like the air and the smell of it. I like that camping atmosphere. in the past I used to go a lot with my uncle. we'd set up the tent, sleep in sleeping bags, play with fireworks... if I have the chance I want to go~ I also really like barbeques, but I think it's better if I go after I'm done filming (laughs). speaking of which, when we went to karuizawa (a popular summer holiday tourist spot somewhere in nagano prefecture) for filming, everyone was so excited that it got difficult to film (laughs). the director instructed us to put our all into it, whether it was just having fun, or just doing whatever we wanted to do (laughs). although I thnk the only person who was getting into such high spirits was the director himself (laughs). but I really like adults who are able to have such a playful spirit in them. by the way, most of the staff are also the same people who worked on [antique] (2001), and so the character I played in that drama, somehow while it's usually hidden away, sometimes it appears. so I think it'll be fun to look out for that previous character in me (laughs). that's a playful spirit too.
imai tsubasa
tsubasa's personality shows in the radio programme he hosts alone, [tsubasa no to base], and it's really popular! as he continues to find out what can improve his programme, he goes through every day ambitiously.
when I first heard that I was going to be a radio personality, I was really happy, and even though I had no idea what sort of programme I was going to make, I just thought that I'd input my own style and see how it goes. but as expected, I was very nervous for the first show... then since I hadn't received a single postcard from the listeners yet, I had to do it by just talking freely about anything, and I thought, "gosh this isn't an easy task". (laughs) although I think there were some parts where I got it, it would have been better if I hadn't been impatient to finish and did it more naturally. what do I want to do with my radio show? I want to try getting guests on my show. people like my working partner (takizawa) (laughs), and if I get the chance, I'd like to hear the voices of my favourite baseball players on air (laughs). also, I'd like to talk about postcards that people send in as much as possible. it'll be nice to have a aunt agony sort of corner. I don't really like to force my opinion on others by telling them to do certain things, but if anyone has anything that's weighing heavily on his mind, and if he asks for my opinion, I'll try my best to think about it. or maybe I could just discuss my problems with everyone? (laughs) it would be more interesting to do it this way, isn't it (laughs).
after this programme was decided upon, I went to check out other celebrities' radio shows, and found that people who were good at talking had a rhythm to their conversations. and they were good at making it flow nicely. when I talk normally to my friends sometimes I say stupid things and sometimes I correct those who say stupid things, but it's really hard to do that on radio. but I'm improving everyday. I also would want to concentrate more on the music. I want to introduce and recommend more music. basically I want to bring on air the nostalgic 80s 'showa era' feel (laughs). I want to choose songs that celebrate the showa period (laughs).
if you want me to talk about something that has been on my mind besides work... because of the rainy season, it's been pretty wet lately so I don't really feel like going out...(laughs) I think when it reaches midsummer my attitude will surely change. but even so, I'm not bored everyday. it's like I live an ordinary but fulfilling life each day? (laughs) ah, a while ago I went for a drive with toma. we went into discount shops and did some shopping, and we took pictures together... lastly, we both went to the beach and talked really earnestly about how big the earth really is. (laughs) it's been a long time since I went out with toma like that, but nothing has changed, so I'm really happy (laughs). now he's working hard for [playzone] rehearsals (this interview was done in july), and after hearing about that, I was also motivated. ...and then I realised that around us were only couples, and I was kinda shocked... (laughs) if you want to talk about some other latest news about me... oh yes, I watched a senior's concert that was performed in the 80s and I was so moved! there was something glorious about that time, and I could really feel that aura of a star, and I thought, that's most certainly expected of them. the power of the audience was amazing too. I still think the showa period is really amazing (laughs).
2004.12 duet (in conjunction with serenade's release)
the two of them talk about the song, laughing about pv filming and talking about ideal love scenarios.
in our palms is only true love. tackey & tsubasa
a real and thrilling NEW SINGLE interview
tackey & tsubasa release a hugely popular NEW SINGLE [serenade]! we interview the two of them about this new song carefully. the interview includes the pair's take on romance at one glance. fans have got to read this!
-- it's been some time since the last new song both of you released, so first I'd like to ask what message this song carries.
there are feelings that can be understood directly, but there's also some word play included. it's a song that includes worldviews. I think it's a song that matches the lyrics and tune very well.
it's an 'in that instant' sort of song, isn't it. the movements (the dance) are also remarkable. when we took the pictures for the cd jacket, we used the stick as a prop, and somehow or another the stick was eventually used in the dance as well.
the talk hasn't gone that far yet (laughs). even though we're used to it, the dance took time to learn. now I'm starring in the taiga drama, [yoshitsune], and I'm always holding a sword, so without thinking much about it, I had a similar pose when holding the stick (laughs).
and while takizawa was being yoshitsune, I was busy using the stick as a baseball bat and imitating suzuki ichirou (baseball player). I wanted to see if I could break a major record (laughs).
ahh, and you did, right? (laughs)
and when we were filming the PV, there's this part where we sit on chairs facing each other, right? we were seated so close our knees could touch, and we were told, "please look at each other", and I really wanted to laugh. and actually I laughed a little during the actual filming, but we managed to not screw up and we were done with just one take (laughs).
I was looking at tsubasa's nose, but tsubasa didn't look around this area (around the edge of the eyebrows)? it would have been better if you looked at my mouth, since you were looking at a completely different place.
when I see takizawa's serious face, I imagine a lot. like "it's because it's this expression, he looks weird" etc. and then later, takizawa, as usual, made a mistake in the dance (laughs). while holding the stick, he suddenly stopped, isn't it.
ahhh about THAT. film is expensive, isn't it. so when the NG came out, I thought omg I've wasted film. but after thinking about it, the mistake in dancesteps can be a misrepresentation of myself, (so I should redo it and therefore) I was in a fix (laughs).
-- there's a phrase in [serenade] that says, "I didn't keep the promise", so what would you do if you didn't keep a promise?
I keep my promises. even if it takes up a lot of my time, I would want to deliver my promise.
although it does depend on the time and the situation, I'd want to keep the promise as much as possible. promises are made to be kept, isn't it. and in order to keep the promise, I will put in as much effort as I can. oh yeah, the other day when I tried to park my car at the supermarket carpark, the official there told me, "please use all your effort to turn [the bundle] around." (laughs)
-- so let's say you have a girlfriend, and you stood her up for a date?
I would apologise very very sincerely...what about tsubasa?
(bows his head very deeply and says in a very loud voice) I'm, I'm VERY SORRY!!
uwahh! (laughs) but if it's her birthday or anniversary sort of date, this won't do, isn't it.
-- and so what would you say if you really did forget such a date?
...uhhh for the both of us, everyday is an anniversary in itself, right....? sort of thing? (laughs)
gross, I got goosepimples from that. but I won't forget important dates like birthdays and anniversaries.
-- the key phrase today is "true love", so what is true love to you?
I think it's when you can be together after defeating all the challenges posed. that you don't run away. challenges could include other guys, your own partner, your family. I don't like it when people run away from problems when they surface.
(bows his head very deeply and says in a very loud voice) you are RIGHT! in a relationship, you must trust each other. suspicions shouldn't be allowed. I mean, if you lie, it'll be very obvious, wouldn't it.
-- so what about this line, "a kiss to you"? do you have an ideal situation where a kiss can happen?
well first we've got to be on a date, right? then for me, we'd go eat a little something. somehow I feel that when we're eating, the distance between us reduces. hmmm. it'll be great if we ate something like monjayaki (this sticky pancake thingy that restaurants allow you to cook by yourself on the table's hotplate, and it takes more than 1 person to cook it properly due to the nature of the batter). we'll get closer while getting the sticky stuff all together.
ohhhhh so you can steal a french kiss or something~ (laughs) I think this comment makes the fans think, "ohh takizawa-kun is just like any of us", and that "this is exactly the takizawa-kun that I envisioned", and hold on hard to this hope.
I'm serious (laughs). then after we're done eating, I'd ask if she wants to go home, and I'll send her home. and how about I kiss her somewhere near her house?
eh, after eating the monjayaki? won't you have some seaweed and other bits of food inside your mouth?
that's not a problem right... but that's kinda true (laughs). then what about tsubasa?
it'll be when we're taking a walk. when I'm driving, I'll stop at someplace that looks nice. and then while we're taking a nice walk through nature, I want to be kissed suddenly without warning. when it's without warning you'd get a little shocked, right? so I'd suddenly return the kiss without warning too (laughs).
-- lastly, a message to our readers!
this is a song that makes one feel nostalgic. but even so, it's not an oldie sort of feel. no matter how old you are, I hope that anybody from young kids to adults can listen to this song.
I hope the listeners can be completely enchanted by the song and immerse themselves in its world. also, we've also included our first christmas songs into the b-sides, so I hope that you will listen to those tracks too.

-- how was the completion of your new song, [kamen]?
we danced quite lot this time round. we've got no little props this time round, and we dance in a black suit with very clean moves.
it gets really intense at the music interlude. another thing that is different from previous songs is that it doesn't really have an intro, and the melody develops several times within the song. so if you treat the coupling song, [mirai koukai] and [kamen] as contrasting songs, you'd find this single enjoyable to listen to.
[kamen] is also used for the japanese dubbed version of the movie [MASK 2], and the lyrics and the movie are linked.
-- after reading the lyrics, I think the 'mask' it writes about refers to 'becoming a different self', so which parts of you would you like to be able to change?
....... (thinks really hard) none. I don't think that I'm perfect, but I think it's okay even if I have flaws.
I've thought too hard about this. I'm tired!
there hasn't been much of this happening lately, but previously at work, there was a period where you said things like, "ahh I'm not this, nor that" and was frustrated, isn't it.
oh yes that's right. and I discussed this a lot with takizawa.
-- you don't talk about romance?
ahh we did. but that was in the past. when we were still cute (laughs). but actually it's basically because I believe in keeping mum about things.
so that's why you don't talk much about such things.
but instead of discussing, we just talk normally, right?
that's right. most of the time, whether I talk to tsubasa or not, I'm able to answer my own questions. I don't really have that need to ask. I don't have that feeling of asking, "so what should I do now?"
oh no no no. even if you ask me, I'll just go along with whatever you say. a very calm sort of feeling.
? (puzzled silence)
takizawa, you've provided an interesting topic.
oh re-really?!
-- then what is something about each other that you think has never changed since a long time ago?
his smile, I guess. I think the way he smiles has never changed~
ehh? fufu~ (laughs)
that's exactly it. when he smiles like that I think it's absolutely wonderful.
then I won't smile anymore~
when he laughs from the bottom of his heart, he'll let out a 'gahaha', then withdraw into a corner and he'll tilt his chin upwards.
doesn't that make me just sound like a kid in general? (laughs)
also, when he talks while laughing, I have completely no idea what on earth he's saying. like he's the only one having fun all by himself (laughs).
I understand that, totally understand that part (laughs). as for what has never changed about takizawa, I suppose it's his very proper and formal way of talking. somehow he doesn't behave like a young person, isn't it. he even used the term 'obnoxious aunties' just now (laughs).
I wrote the answer with this old fashioned feel (laughs).
but seriously, you don't know recent happenings right?! when you watch TV, you'd ask too much of, "who on earth is that?"!!
that's true, isn't it. but that's because I can't watch TV.
hahaha. it's because the TV doesn't work, isn't it (laughs).
and if you're wondering why, it's because (looks at tsubasa) THIS person spoilt the TV (laughs).
nonsense! takizawa's TV was a lousy one in the first place.
while that's true, it's really because it's this guy's fault!
don't drag this joke on for too long okay (laughs).
when tsubasa came over to my place, he spoilt the TV when I was in the bath. I think he probably thought to himself, "it'll make takizawa happy if I tidy up the wires". and then he tried his very best to do that. but while doing it he pulled something too hard. so when I came out of my bath, tsubasa was just holding the wire in his hand and happily said, "I broke your TV!" (laughs)
aww he's such a nice guy right? saying such nice things (laughs).
but "I broke your TV" isn't what I want to hear, I want to see that you want to repair it! and you just stood there with the wire in your hand. it gave me that feeling that you were some kid who didn't want his parents to be cross with him.
oh you put it too nicely.
it isn't at all (laughs). that was like 3 years ago. so because I can't watch TV, it can't be helped that I keep asking, "who's that?".
you've dragged this story on for too long~
-- so you will start your concert tour from the 30th of april at osaka jo hall, singing your new song?
the theme is to have fun, a really rowdy festival. but because we decided on this pretty suddenly, so it's a bit rushed (laughs).
I really want to make it a rowdy festival. just like the last time, I don't just want to see that the audience has fun watching us, but that they have fun moving to the music too. let's have fun together!
