flats

So, I've dropped the 7-year-long embargo on flat shoes; today I wore my hot pink tweed mary-jane-style ballet flats with black capris. For some reason this made my legs look about eight miles longer than wearing the same pants with massively high heels. So much for lordosis.

This outfit also had the side effect of irrepresively and intractably evoking the wonky existential dance that Audrey Hepburn performs in Funny Face. That plus the rain had me in a Hollywood musical mood all day; I kept catching myself striking ridiculous poses while performing simple actions, twirling, skip-stepping, umbrella-flourishing, and otherwise being incredibly lame. Bending down to pick up a pen involved extending my right foot straight out behind me, twisting 270-degrees on my left ankle, placing my weight on my right toes pointing ankle up, and lowering myself with a sweeping arm until my right knee hovered about a half-inch above the ground. And that's the moment at which I realised what the hell my body was doing, and felt really silly.

I also came up with new lyrics to drive "Singin' in the Rain" out of my head: "the most lame, overrated musical ever made..." I will never understand why such a mediocre musical is so popular, and so many amazing ones are almost completely unknown.

fashionistism, vanity, still in hollywood
