One week down since the Host's fabulous party, in which most of the staff drank themselves into an alcholic stupor while I just made a fool of myself. I still couldn't quite figure out why I had gone to speak with Wesley. I seemed a stupid, emotional thing to do, and I do not act on emotions. I act on logic and facts. I go with the bet that is ( Read more... )

I walked into Lilah Morgan's office. I half expected the smell of sulfur to greet me as I entered. I knew she was not the devil per se but there were times I was quite convinced she was more evil than the devil itself.

“Sorry to interrupt you but I figured it was time that we got to business.” As much as I hated the idea of working for this woman I wanted to get it over with. I did not want this hanging over my head for much longer. I knew I would not be able to avoid it completely so might as well accept my fate.

I looked up to find Jenny Calender. "What an amusing surprise." I said putting my pen down. I motioned for her to sit down across from me. "You'll have to excuse me for not contacting you sooner. In order to torture the CEO of your company, one must first have a company that isnt going bankrupt. I've been a bit preoccupied with some cases."

I filed my papers away into a few folders and locked them away in my drawer. "First," I said folding my hands together, "Can I just say how nice it is that you came to see me? That's what the world really lacks these days. A smart, strong, woman who is willing to get up and torture her boyfriend's ally." I smirked at her. "Only joking of course. We both know why you are here. I'm just glad that you have come to accept it insted of whining and sniviling and trying to weasel your way out of it, like some of the others might have done."

I was not sure how to respond to Lilah’s little speech. She was confident and intelligent and there was something about the way she smiled. Maybe if things were different we could have been friends, but things were not different and never would be. No we would never be friends but all the same we would have to work together if I was to fulfill my contract.

“Well I feel special.” I said sitting down in front of her desk. “So what is the plan? Shouldn’t we get started with whatever it is you’re plotting?” I hoped that the sooner we started the sooner we would be done and I would be free to start living my life.

"Well someone's in a rush to ruin Angel's life." I said with a small smirk. To tell the truth, I rather liked Janna. She was smart and didn't shy away from things. I wondered if it would ever be a possibility to get her working for me. Although given the fact that she was in love with a stuffy old watcher and had known the slayer since she was sixteen, I had my doubts.

"Angel." I said crossing my legs, "Doesn't know you're back. I want you to go pay him a little visit. Remind him of what exactly he did to you. The way your neck felt snapping under his fingers..." I paused. "Oh I'm sorry. Is this making you uncomfortable?" I couldn't help the smile from creeping over my face.

I nodded slowly; I could hardly fathom what a meeting with Angel would go like. I could see his dark eyes full of pain and frustration staring back at me with disbelief. He might question his sanity since he would know by my smell alone that I was the real thing. Than again, he still might have his doubts no matter how strong the case I made was ( ... )

I re-crossed my legs and leaned forward, resting my elbows on my desk. Jenny sat across from me looking extremely composed for a woman in her situation. Spending time with her while working on Angel should prove to be entertaining at least.

I ran a pen through my fingers as she spoke, "You're a smart woman Jenny." I said truthfully. "You keep your wits about you even in the most difficult of situations. I have no doubt that you will fullfill my expectations better than anyone could have imagined. Take as much time as you need."

I stood up and followed her to my office door. "No, we're finished here. Have a pleasant day Ms. Calander." I said shutting the door behind her and going back to work.
