I managed to get the girls back to my flat. Rousing Alicia long enough to walk, or rather, stumble upstairs. Getting them in their new pajama's Cordelia had gotten them wasn't much of a problem either and then they were both laying in my guestoom sound asleep. I kept the door open a bit, just in case one of them would get a nightmare. For a moment I was rather confused as what to do with the costumes. Shrugging, I just hung them out or now. I'd have to ask Cordelia about that. I've no idea if they're rented or if she brought them. Quickly, I got out of my own costume and slipped into some sweats and a shirt. There, much better. Wonder if I can get away with burning the hat. Doubtful.

Then I took some time to rummage through the suitcase with things Angel had gotten from their home. Papers, pictures, some other personal items. I put the papers on a save place after I read through them. They really didn't have any other relatives. I wasn't certain what to think about that. It meant that they were going to have to be put 'into the system' and I fiercely didn't want that. Any child support and welfare system is utter crap. No matter what country. At least when it came to things like these, in my opinion. Gunn or one of the other lawyers was going to have to look into that. Until then they were going to bloody well stay here with me.

The next morning, I'd gotten up early. Cordy had been so nice as to take us grocery shopping as well. So my cupboards were now filled with 'food children will appreciate and silly British guys should eat as well'. Her words, not mine. I've no idea what's wrong with tea and toast for breakfast, but apparently it wasn't good enough. Well, I knew it wasn't something one should give children, but there's nothing wrong with it for myself. Which is what I was eating, despite Alicia's lecture on healthy food. While the children ate, I called their school. The principal, a Mrs. Beltin, was very understanding. I gave her my number in case there were some questions or other. She told me the girls could take their time since there was an upcoming holiday anyway. Well, how very convenient.

After that I shooed the girls under the shower again. Keeping an eye on Marilee again while brushing out Alicia's hair. It struck me how easily one seemed to fall into some kind of routine, and it only had been a day or two since they'd come here. I let Alicia pick out her own clothes after she had glared at me for daring to question the length of her skirt. I still think it's to bloody short. I'll have to ask Fred and Cordy about that. Well, not Cordy. She got her the sodding thing. Marilee was less of a problem. I just picked out one of those matching outfits and hoisted her into that. She grabbed her Boo, ran into the living room and was glued to the telly again. Stupid Sponge. He was even on her t-shirt.

It was then that I walked into a problem. I had to go into work, of course. But... I couldn't very well leave the girls here alone. And I didn't know anyone who could watch them while I was at the firm. Fred would be busy as well. Cordelia was...probably trying to get her life back. Angel... Right. Maybe Lorne? I've no idea. Gunn was definitely to busy. Didn't really trust anyone else to look after them. Dammit. I pondered the problem for a moment and then decided it would be best to take them into the office for now. There should be plenty of things to do for them there. I mean, big lawfirm, small children. Lot's of exiting things. Bugger. I'll fetch some things from that odd daycare center where I'm still not certain they weren't sacrificing any of the kids for nefarious plans.

I got them into their coats, ushered them into the car and drove over to Wolfram and Hart. It was still early, as usual. Once the girls started school, I'd probably be in a little later. I'm a department head, I can make adjustments. I think. I'm sure Angel wouldn't mind and he's the boss right? When we walked into the lobby they were still cleaning up from the party last night.

"Whoa!" Alicia said, "Look at that mess." She scrunched up her nose while she ran into the now empty lobby. "Echo!" She giggled and I shook my head at her, hiding a smile.

"Alicia, this is an office, not a playground." I glanced down at Marilee who was clutching my hand and looking around with wide eyes.

Alicia skipped over to me again and grinned. "But it's fun," she announced. Smoothing out her skirt she sighed. "So now what?" She wanted to know.

"Now we go get some things to keep you two busy at the...day care center and then I'll go make some calls." Nodding at that, I started toward the floor the daycare center was situated.

"Do we have to stway there?" Marilee wanted to know, tugging on my shirt.

"Uhm..." I frowned at that. What if they liked it there? "Do you want to?" I asked diplomatically. Marilee shook her head frantically and I managed not to let out a relieved breath. We went over there and got some things to keep them busy. Marilee wanted some crayons and paper and the likes. Alicia got some books to read and some games. I settled them in my office and then booted up my computer, getting ready to do some work. I'd left a message at Gunn's department to ask if Gunn or any of his direct co-workers could come by to discus the matter.

Opening a book, I started to translate while trying very hard not to listen to the sounds of an annoying gameboy Alicia was playing with. Or Marilee showing me her drawing every ten minutes. Bloody hell, I need someone who'd be willing to watch the kids for a bit so I can get some work done.
