So this was supposed to be my last week with Paymentech.
Last week I was on vacation, though I technically was supposed to work last Monday and half the day Tuesday, but I called in because of the heat and not sleeping from it.
I had not yet put in my notice that I was leaving, seeing as I didn't get the official offer until Monday evening, and what with Texas being a right to work state and all Jessie made me promise to wait until I went back to work today to put in my notice.
So after a long hot week of nothing (and a wonderful weekend with friends) I went back to work today.
I didn't even have to sit down to realize something was not quite right.
My headset was missing. Well more precisely the thing that connects my headset to my phone was missing.
I sat down and logged in and immediately started scanning my emails. After plowing through about 100 bits of useless junk mail I come across one from management saying no one is to schedule any appointments for me until further notice.
I check my calendar and sure enough there is a block on it for the next few weeks.
I went back to my email and the next one I come across is from my manager saying we need to talk about my attendance.
I knew that because of my lack of sick and vacation time this past spring and then having to miss so much time for my kidney stones that I could only call in like one or two times until my review in February without either a doctors note or getting in serious trouble because I was going to go over my points. Of course when I called in sick the week before I had already received my soft offer, and so I really didn't care.
So I looked around and realized that my manager was not in yet, so I would just cut her off from having to write me up or even fire me, by going ahead and submitting my resignation. I emailed her saying Thursday was my last day pretending everything else was fine.
One of the leads found me some busy work to do until my manager finally showed up and got around to talking to me.
She congratulated me on my new job and told me they would mail me my exit material and I could leave, but they would be paying me through Thursday, it was just simpler to let me go today without having to worry about me possibly getting an escalation that I would have to try and hand off to someone else.
So I happily packed up my desk, hugged the three people I liked, gave them my email address, and left.
I did not so much as look back. I ran into a couple of guys in the elevator from my team, who by the way they were talking thought I had been fired, but I told them that no I quit and not to let anyone think I got fired but left of my own free will. Of course come to find out by the end of August three other trainers will be gone, and there are 3 other trainers and two schedulers seriously looking for other work. The ones who already have other jobs are some of the top trainers in the department. Actually with me leaving the number one and the number three trainer in the department have left in the last three weeks. They lose those next three leave and the departments numbers will bottom out. They think we were doing bad right now...just wait...
They will miss me when I am gone.
So I now have the rest of the week to do with as I please.
My mom and dad are staying with us tomorrow night as they are driving to Atlanta with my brother and need someplace to stay, so tomorrow I will be cleaning like crazy to make sure the house is just right for them to sleep here.
That is my plan.
Then Monday I start my new job.
And since I never mentioned what it was, I am taking Jojo's job. Data Staging Analyst is the actual title. It is better pay, a better commute, a better work environment, and I don't have to talk to customers on the phone. I am pleased!
