My horse is making me look incompetent
Well... my horse got loose today and caused a commotion on campus.
I thought I would bring him over to the arena to help him get used to being out of sight of other horses. I was just going to free longe him a bit. I closed the gate, looked at the far gate (which was about 1- 1.5 feet open) and let him loose while I walked to the other gate to close it. He cantered over there, pushed the gate open the rest of the way, took a bite of grass and then promptly trotted off down the road, picking up speed as he went and calling a few times.
I jogged after him across campus, which only proved to myself how out of shape I am. Someone honked their car horn at him a bunch, and some guy on a motorcycle started following him. Hello?! Do you honestly believe that helps the situation? Some people are just really dumb about animals. He ran back to the orchard pasture, where I met up with Claire and Tracy. After he was caught Alex, Laura, and the campus police showed up. I was rather embarrassed.
Anyway, I brought him back to the arena and secured the gates properly and then let him prance around for a good half hour. He looked very handsome and he even free jumped 2 jumps completely on his own, I didn't drive him at them or anything. I think I've got myself a future, crazy, arab eventer. Whoohoo.
After that he got flysprayed and then back out to the pasture.
