Oh Sunny...

Had a rough day 2 at the clinic today, tried a standing martingale on Sunny and she HATED it! It was hilarious and super frustrating at the same time. Had to just share this quick video of me whooping some ass after she wouldn't get off my left leg, haha.

The clinician suggested I try one because the running I use on her is adjusted properly, if not a tad long, but when Sunny puts her head up high it totally ruins the contact from your hand to her mouth (the clinician realized this when she rode Sunny, I will post the video soon). So instead of having a not that effective running on, the standing would let me maintain the rein contact better and she would only be fighting against herself. And Sunny, of course, is oh so dramatic when she doesn't get her way. So I'll try the standing again today for the last day of the clinic and see how it goes, it's not something I'm going to use long term or even regularly though. Our biggest thing is that we hadn't jumped in another since my coach is down in Cali currently, and Sunny always gets fired up about jumping:p

that makes sense - maybe I'm misreading but you CANT adjust the running? maybe you could get a smaller running or something? I feel like eventually she may give up fighting the standing though which would be good, hah.

I do hate when they get all high and short in the neck like that and i"m like "oh great, I have no steering or brakes."

Sunny was actually FABULOUS today in the standing, that weirdo. I'm going to stick with the running though, in the Leslie Law clinic last year he actually used me as an example of how a running martingale should be adjusted perfectly for eventing, lol. Really there's nothing horribly wrong with what I currently use, Linda thought maybe a standing would be more effective for Sunny's hopping and bopping, and I don't know that it was, even though she wasn't an idiot about it today. It was more Sunny being wound up than anything else. Today I didn't feel like I need any kind of martingale, she was actually SO good!
