You are invited to enter the Secret Eden
---
“You got them to send an invite to the kitten?” Changmin held a sheet of paper with a list of names as he and Yoochun were walking down the university parking.
“Yea.” Yoochun ran his hand down his face. Maybe he’d been too rash? His head was rattling, thinking of ways on how to let Jaejoong’s presence in the club slip.
“You do realize this could get you in serious trouble, right?” Changmin’s voice was stern.
“Yes, I know,” the senator’s son swallowed as he took the list of invites from his companion’s hands.
Changmin eyed Yoochun with apprehension. He knew Yoochun liked playing with the rules, sometimes recklessly but he didn’t realize that his zeal towards his bet with Yunho was so strong. “Are you really that desperate to win Yunho’s penthouse”
Yoochun briefly stuttered in his steps. In fact, no, he wasn’t even desperate to get the penthouse. No. No, it wasn’t just about the bet anymore. He wanted Jaejoong in the club. He’d already grown an affinity to the student and he knew he belonged to the Secret Eden.
It was a bigger challenge. And whatever Yoochun wanted, Yoochun got. Always.
---
Kim Jaejoong.
His name was written in intricate, cursive, inked letters. Lying with his back on the bed, Jaejoong stared at the small envelope he held above his head. It was an invitation, the one he had been told about. His mind strayed a few days back.
Jaejoong remembered being pulled away by the infamous Park Yoochun. His mind was blank at that time, not really understanding what just happened. Once they got further away from Yunho, the two of them stopped at a corner. He recalled looking directly into Yoochun’s eyes, questioning him.
“You’re going to receive an invitation. Accept it. There are going to be some rules and instructions. Don’t fret over them, but follow what you can. Trust me.”
Jaejoong’s heart raced just by the memory of Yoochun’s words.
Trust me.
It echoed in his head, the voice of the infamous Park Yoochun. How could he trust someone like him? He knew he was no one to judge but then again, he’d just met him.
Yet even with all his reasons for doubt, Jaejoong found himself feeling a sense of reliance towards him. He remembered the sincere eyes that looked back at him. And that warm smile.
He sat up and turned the envelope, thinking twice if he should finally opened it. Closed his eyes and laughed at himself. It was silly, he thought. He was getting riled up for a simple invitation. It was just an invitation.
“It’s just an invitation.” Shaking his head, he opened the envelope and took the paper out. It was a black sheet with white writing. On the heading were the initials “S.E.”, embossed in silver ink.
You are invited to enter the Secret Eden.
Jaejoong read through the letter, it was mysterious and interesting, a secret place for people the likes of Park Yoochun and Jung Yunho. He wondered just how many persons knew of it.
The arrival of this invite marks your selection by trusted members of the club. This invitation remains valid for you, and for you alone. We strongly encourage you to accept.
Already, Jaejoong was disbelieving of why he received such invitation. His eyes scanned further down the sheet.
The auction.
Jaejoong’s eyes widened. The invitation wasn’t just a request for him to simply go to the Secret Eden. He was an auction piece. Suddenly Yoochun’s spat with Yunho about some auction made sense.
The Auction. It is mandatory that you join this induction event. All prospect members of the Secret Eden must be placed for auction to the existing members. Failure to reach the set bidding price will mean automatic rejection. There are no re-openings or exceptions.
As you finish reading this invite, please keep in mind that all contents of this invitation and matters about the Secret Eden must be kept undisclosed to anyone. Your invitation has been reviewed and only you are meant to see it. Your background as well as assets and liabilities have been assessed for your qualification to join. Any invalidity of the statements, once you have approved the invitation, will be of serious consequences.
Jaejoong swallowed as he read the last part of the letter again and again. This was what Yoochun had told him not to fret about. It was a matter of trusting Yoochun enough to approve the invitation.
His mind was in a whirlwind. “What am I getting myself into?”
---
“Have you seen the list of invites yet?” Yoochun said as he sat next to Yunho’s barstool. It was a pretty mellow night at the Secret Eden.
“Yea. A lot of interesting names…” Yunho replied apathetically, before taking a gulp of his beer.
“Anyone you’re eyeing?” the other studied his reactions carefully.
“No one specifically…” he lied.
Yoochun grinned and Yunho didn’t miss the way his lips curled, he turned to Yoochun, “What?”
“Yah! Jung Yunho. I’ve known you since what? Since we were in diapers? If we didn’t find sex between us absolutely horrible, we’d probably be married.” He teased and chuckled at the irritated noise from Yunho. “Do you think I can’t tell when you want your hands on something?”
The two of them went silent.
“Kim Jaejoong. He’s got your attention, doesn’t he?”
Yunho only grunted, Yoochun laughed. “Don’t worry Yun, attraction to him is not unexpected. He’s quite captivating, isn’t he?”
“Mmhmm…the pretty kitten is quite exciting” Changmin butted in their conversation and took the other seat beside Yunho.
“Kitten?” the pre-law student asked with knitted eyebrows, slightly irritated with the way Changmin called Jaejoong.
“He’s like one don’t you think? His thin frame, the way he curves his lips…” the tall man ringed the rim of his glass with his finger, “…and those big eyes, so innocent. It makes you wonder how he is in bed.” Changmin smirked as if trying to imagine.
Yunho slightly clenched his fist, another action Yoochun didn’t miss.
---
Yoochun sat comfortably in the chair of the chancellor’s office, he leaned back to the chair, with his legs crossed and his elbows resting on the handles. “This is a 70 million won donation by my father to Geum Daehakgyo, chancellor Lee. It’s a very generous sum and I’m sure the school would put this into good use,” he placed that check in the middle of the table, his fingers gliding through the wooden surface.
“Thank you, Mr. Par-” Just as the chancellor was about to take the check, the student pulled it back, causing the older man to look at him in confusion.
“But sir, before I give it to you, I want to make a deal.”
The his eyes narrowed. “Pardon?”
“I have a deal to make. It’s quite interesting, actually.”
“Park Yoochun, I will not be dragged to any of your games.”
The student grabbed the piece of paper and folded it, “It’s an easy request though. So easy for what millions of won is worth.” He tapped the check against the edge of the table.
Their eyes met for long seconds. The chancellor found himself in doubt. The school could use the money, it always could. “What do you want Mr. Park?”
Yoochun broke a smile. “That’s more like it.” He paused and laid the check back down. “Kim Jaejoong. Do you know him?”
Mr. Lee leered at him. Of course he did. He was very attentive to the small number of scholars in the university and Kim Jaejoong was very hard to miss. The pale boy who had exceptional song writing skills.
“I do. He’s brilliant music writer, that’s why our university took him in as a scholar.”
“I want you to revoke his scholarship.”
“Excuse me?”
“Mr. Lee,” Yoochun looked at him straight in the eye. “I want you to revoke Kim Jaejoong’s scholarship.”
The principal didn’t understand the student’s intentions; neither did he have any time to delve on it. “Why? Has Mr. Kim done anything wrong?”
“None”
His voice flared. “Mr. Park, I cannot just expel a student for no legitimate reason!”
“Mr. Lee, calm down. I have no intention of getting Kim Jaejoong out of this school. I simply want his scholarship cancelled. Don’t kick him out, just take the scholarship away from him, that is all.”
The older man scratched his forehead. “You are aware that without the scholarship, Kim Jaejoong doesn’t have the financial capability to stay at Geum Daehakgyo?”
“I am, but I have everything under control. Jaejoong will be able to pay his tuition by the deadline.”
“Mr. Pa-”
“I guarantee you, Kim Jaejoong will pay the tuition and stay in Geum Daehakgyo. If he doesn’t, I will double the donation.”
---
Jaejoong’s face still felt cold from the chancellor’s words.
“Your scholarship has been terminated”
He couldn’t accept it. As far as he knew he had not done anything wrong to get his scholarship withdrawn. The chancellor had said the reason was something he cannot disclose and it was so unfair to lose something by a reason he didn't even know of. Jaejoong wanted to get angry but he felt too fatigued, disheartened even, to start an argument.
What was he going to do now? Without Geum Daehakgyo he had no place. It was the best school, and one of the best opportunities he has ever had.
Walking down the hall, he felt unwilling to move, he stopped and stared at the ground. He didn’t want to go home. He didn’t know what to tell his parents, they had been so excited for him.
When he looked up, he was surprised to see Park Yoochun standing in the corridor, with crossed arms and one leg leaning against the wall.
“I’m going to have to say I’m deeply sorry, Jaejoong” he said with a straight face
Jaejoong looked at him with confused eyes.
“The scholarship termination…it was my doing. I didn’t mean anything cruel out of it.”
Didn’t mean anything cruel? Jaejoong stiffened. He didn’t understand. Why would Yoochun do such thing?
His anger rose, and he clenched his fists, he was ready to punch the daylights out of Park.
“I was only trying to help.”
“What are you talking about?” he spat back. His patience was dwindling.
“They’ll find out. They’ll easily find out if they discover that you’re a scholar.”
Suddenly, a chill up his spine replaced the anger. Secret Eden.
Yoochun pulled a piece of paper out of his pocket. A check. Jaejoong’s breath deepened as he, stared at the sheet in his hands. He was more confused than ever.
“The amount on this check can cover everything you need in GeumDae. It’s yours.”
Jaejoong blinked. “Take it as my thanks for your attendance at the auction.”
“I-I can’t take this from you. It’s too much.”
“Me, having your scholarship revoked is too much” Yoochun laughed and Jaejoong couldn’t really grasp how light the other took everything. “This money is nothing much to me, Jaejoong. Please accept it.”
Jaejoong opened his mouth and closed it again. Everything was on the line, his future, his parents' feelings. He needed to be in GeumDae. He wanted to be in GeumDae. Would it be really low of hin to take Yoochun's money? But the other had said it himself, it was Yoochun's fault that he'd lost the scholarship right? Yoochun was only owning up to it. Come to think of it, he should own up to hit.
Jaejoong didn't really have a choice. Biting his lip, he took the check from Yoochun’s hand. “Thank you.”
“So you’re going to the auction right?”
“Do I have a choice?”
“Hm…No.”
Jaejoong gave a small smiled. “I don’t think I fit in with you guys though”
“You already do.” He beamed. “You just need a little polishing up. And I’ll take care of that too.”
Jaejoong’s heart bolted. An odd sense of excitement ran through him.
---
Jaejoong stared at his laptop. He had several windows open. It all started with search on Geum Daehakgyo and its students, then he found himself browsing through sports cars, branded clothes, jewelry, travelling, five start hotels and high class bars. Those were what filled the lives of the students at GeumDae and he was a part of it now.
He has lived a pretty comfortable life, his parents have provided his family well, but whatever status he had was still nowhere near the lifestyle of the students in his university, more so, the people who could get in the Secret Eden.
He really didn’t understand, why him? Why had he been given the invitation? It felt like a mistake and he had no power to change it.
He opened another tab, Jung Yunho. His reputation was so different from Yoochun's. Straight A student. Soccer varsity in high school. He helped out in charity and was listed as one of the most promising youth of South Korea. But there was a different side of him. He found several rumors of him, which were either disbelived or hidden. If Jaejoong hadn't seen that other side, he would never have thought any of them were possible.
Jaejoong momentarily tore his eyes off the computer as he heard a car by their street. He stretched his neck a little, peering out the window. Parked in their driveway was a black car. It was one of his father’s colleagues, he thought. He shrugged and was surprised when he heard a knock on the door.
“Joong-ah,” his sister peered through the door. “Someone is here for you. I think he’s from your university.”
---
A surprised expression laid on Jaejoong’s face when he saw the person standing by their doorway. He closed the door as he stepped outside. The night breeze was chilly.
“Changmin”
“You have a cute house, kitten”
Jaejoong looked to the ground, feeling a little bit embarrassed, though he knew he shouldn’t have. “I…”
He heard a low laugh. “Don’t worry kitten, I know.” He looked up at Changmin. “Your secret is safe with me.”
“What are you doing here?”
“I’m here to take you clubbing.”
