.o1
Open your base and crop it. The rest of the step totally depens on the lightness of your base. If it's way too dark then you'd set it on Screen. If it's too light then you'd set it on Soft Light. It really depends on the lightness of your base, so you basically have to try out a little.

.o2
In the next step you create a soft light layer with the color # c1c388. Set it on Soft Light (100%)

.o3
Now use the curves (Layer; New Adjustment Layer; Curves).
The settings for this layer are:

CHANNEL | RGB

1st point
Input: 0 | Output: 44

2nd point
Input: 81 | Output: 52

3rd point
Input: 138 | Output: 143

4th point
Input: 146 | Output: 161

5th point
Input: 255 | Output: 255

CHANNEL | BLUE

1st point
Input: 9 | Output: 0

2nd point
Input: 85 | Output: 71

3rd point
Input: 255 | Output: 255

.o4
Once more a curves layer (Layer; New Adjustment Layer; Curves). This layer gives your icon a more blueish color.. it's quite effectfull for this tutorial even if it can't really be seen in the finished icon.
For this layer the setting basically are:

CHANNEL | RGB

1st point
Input: 0 | Output: 0

2nd point
Input: 74 | Output: 65

3rd point:
Input: 155 | Output: 170

4th point:
Input: 255 | Output: 255

CHANNEL | RED

1st point
Input: 0 | Output: 0

2nd point
Input: 75 | Output: 69

3rd point
Input: 177 | Output: 163

4th point
Input: 255 | Output: 255

CHANNEL | BLUE

1st point
Input: 0 | Output: 0

2nd point
Input: 65 | Output: 68

3rd point
Input: 125 | Output: 129

4th point
Input: 172 | Output: 185

5th point
Input: 255 | Output: 255

.o5
Now, you have to use the selective coloring (Layer; New Adjustment Layer; Selective Coloring).

REDS: -100 | +48 | +15 | +10
YELLOWS: -11 | +100 | 0 | -76
GREYS: -24 | 0 | -1 | +17
BLACKS: 0 | 0 | 0 | +4

.o6
This step is a color fill layer. Set the layer on Exclusion (74%) and use the color # 2c1905.

.o7
The last step is a hue & saturation layer (Layer; New Adjustment Layer; Hue & Saturation). I used it to intense the colors of the icon and it turned out quite well with it.
The settings for this last step are:

REDS: +4 | +31 | +29
YELLOWS: 0 | -9 | 0
GREENS: +29 | -23 | + 23

Now you're done with the tutorial. Congrats (:
If you want you can use now fonts or textures to decorate your icon.
I'd love to see your results.
