So.. I have a student who is scared of dogs. She has never been hurt or knocked down by one. She now is staring to be afraid of cows (?) and other animals. When we watch educational videos in the class with animals in them (frogs, wolves, penguins, anything) she gets a little nervous. She watches every second of the videos but does cover her ears. She does not plug them up, so she can still hear but she puts her hands over the ears. I would likely just let it be, since she is still able to watch and learn and she is not disrupting the class or making a commotion. Her special ed liason came in the room and saw this and got alllll upset! She talked to me about it for like 35 minutes and wanted the girl topreview all videos and talk it out with an aide first and also to do social stories about on videos. Well.. Ifeel like it is overreacting and I feel like if I pay more attention to it, it will get worse. What do moms and other teachers think? When your kids are scared of something, do you think it makes it worse by making a big fuss about it? Would you want the teachers at school to spend so much time talking /working on it, or is a child's worry about dogs (or the dark or monsters) for you to work on at home?
