One of the few downsides to being a mom

There are not many downsides to being a parent (that I know of). Yes you have to re-distribute earnings away from shops such as New Look, H&M and Gap and into Mothercare, Boots and Baby Gap. But I cope well with that, and kinda enjoy it. Also you have to plan trips and days out with military precision. Even if you go out without the little blessings, you still have to arrange sitters and comfort the kids if they think you are never returning. Even then you can't relax, because at the back of your mind there is always a little voice nagging away at you - "are the kids behaving? Are they missing you? Are they ok?"

One downside of parenthood is seeing your child in pain and distress. Baby Leo had a nasty accident yesterday. He was climbing on the toy box to sneak a look in the mirror (yes, vain) when he lost his footing and fell.....his mouth making hard contact with the radiator. The vast amount of blood that re-decorated my wall should have given me a heart attack, but I managed to keep it together whilst I called my mother-in-law to come look after the siblings, and drag Brett home from work (at his chef's annoyance....yes he will be deathglared when I see him next). When we made it to the emergency dept, docs discovered that as well as a split lip, one of his top front teeth had been forced back up into it's socket, and the root had been forced through the front of the gum at an angle (yep, yuck his mouth was a mess). After a few hours of panic (wondering if he would need surgery) and Leo flirting with the cute nurses, an oral surgeon decided it would be best to remove his stuck tooth and then inspect the damaged gum. At this point Brett ordered me to run far far away coz he knew that seeing this would finish me off. So I ran, guilt-ridden, out of the ward into the horrid waiting room full of drunks. Yet I still heard his scream of pain and terror. The tears just fell. After five minutes or so (felt like five hours), the surgeon came out and told me the tooth is out, and luckily the damage to his gum is minimal and should heal well without surgery....relief!!

Poor little dude will now have a gap until his adult tooth replaces it, but one good(ish) thing has come of it.....he now won't choke to death from eating too quickly. It took him an half an hour to eat his weetabix this morning, normally its 2 minutes!!

*Off to huggle my baby again!*
