I learned a couple of important universal truths this morning.
1. Apparently people tend to refrain from flipping their bacon with their fingers because bacon grease is (are you ready for this? I wasn't) HOT! it actually causes little patches of strangely colored, swelling and painful skin that is, technically, just a little bit cooked. yum, cooked bits of Bekah's fingers.
2. When cutting buns, it is customary to arrest the sawing motion of the knife BEFORE it reaches the soft flesh of ones finger. Otherwise one ends up with little dribbles of blood seeping through the wrinkles on the inside of ones knuckle. Also, aforementioned finger should not later be brought into contact with salty, ketchupy lips, no matter how effective such a means of removing the excess blood might appear. Apparently the old saying "pouring salt on wounds" means pain.
So, if you had asked me yesterday if I was aware of these truths, I would have said yes. And yet, this morning I failed to demonstrate my awareness, thus I must treat myself as one who is learning them for the first time. As my dad used to tell me, saying that you know and acting that you know are two completely different things, only one of which means that you actually know.
Heading to Vancouver this Saturday for a quick outing... Nick's in a skit or two, and it's been forever since I've been to anything even remotely resembling theater, so I'm quite excited. I almost didn't know about it, the jerk, attempting to deprive me of my excuse to make myself go out an actually do something.
I'm either going to head to Campbell River on Friday, spend the night with Jess and take the bus from there over to Nanaimo, or I'll head out on the road on Saturday morning with a sign saying "Horseshoe Bay Ferry" and see who God sends my way. The latter is certainly cheaper... and Courtenay's easier to hitch from than Campbell River is, but I'd like to see Jess, so I may just do the former and screw hitching for now. Here's hoping the snow holds off, or at least isn't too bad if it comes.
the window in our house is still broken, so Tamara and I sit in the living room and freeze our collective asses off doing homework. yay. *sigh* stupid landlady not getting the glass guys over when she promised she would. She reminds me of myself!
*note to self* get cell phone fixed!
well, I suppose I should do some of the homework I've been putting off... can't believe I'm behind in the class I was most excited about. One assignment due last week, still barely started and certainly not handed in... in creative nonfiction. The class that drives me into blissful threos of ecstasy. gah.
