Since the last time I posted..I've still been working as a substitute. Over the weekend one of my best friends texted me and said that she was taking over for a fired 5th grade teacher and the school also had an open 2nd grade placement. So..I took a sub job on Monday as a music teacher. About halfway through my third class, the principal and vice principal came into the room to watch me teach. At the end of the class, they offered me a long-term sub position taking over for a second grade teacher that is resigning on February 18th. It's going to be so nice to be at the same place every single morning and it'll be even nicer to have an increased, steady income. The school that I'll be working at, Roy Roberts, was built in 2007 - so it's very high-tech and new. The student population makes the school a Title 1 school...which is exactly the kind of school I would love, love, love to work at. My first week will be the week of February 21st, which is being considered my trial week before they add me on full time through the rest of the school year. I'm even more excited to be at the same school as Alisha. We're keeping our fingers crossed that we'll both get hired to be "real" teachers for the next school year - and there's been talk of moving Alisha down to fill another vacant 2nd grade position if everything works out. God is so good!
Other than that, I started working on/for
Dear Mr. Potter. I'm the head of public relations (which isn't very interesting right now since we're not really ready for publicity outside of the fandom itself) and then I'm also working as a general content manager. It's such an amazing project and I'm proud to be behind it. I hope it goes on to be EXTREMELY successful. A ton of the people that are working on the book are also going to LeakyCon - so it'll be fun to have an even larger group of people to hang out with than I had originally anticipated. I've also reconnected with an old friend. She reached out to me, and I'm so glad that she did. We basically picked up right where we left things off a few months ago - and all is well in that department.
I suppose I should say something about the INSANE WEATHER we're having right now. We only got about 5 inches of snow (which is a pretty big deal on its own for West Texas) but the insane temperatures are what's really killing us. Schools have been delayed/canceled every day since Monday and I think a big reason for that is because of the temperatures. Earlier today, it was colder here than it was in the North Pole and it's currently colder here than it is in Alaska. When I woke up this morning, it was 2 degrees outside with a windchill factor of -23. The 2 degree reading is the lowest Lubbock has had since December of 1989. Mother Nature clearly doesn't realize that I'm in Texas.
