What a crazy week this has been!
On Monday, I had an emergency substitute job at Overton Elementary in a kindergarten classroom. It was so much fun! I felt right at home in kindergarten and the rest of the staff was incredibly helpful. The school was a lot nicer than I thought it would be too - and the kiddos were super sweet. We had a fun day and I hope I get to do more subbing in kindergarten in the future.
On Tuesday I had a substitute orientation at Frenship. I'm now registered to sub in Lubbock ISD, Frenship ISD, and Lubbock-Cooper ISD..so I definitely won't be hurting for cash until I get a real job. For some reason, though, Frenship pays their certified substitutes $15 less than Lubbock and Cooper do. So I think if I had a choice, I'd pick Cooper or LISD over Frenship on any given day as a substitute. After the orientation was over Teddye, Alisha, and myself all went out to brunch at Cracker Barrel. We've been so busy this semester (and they were in a different capstone than I am) so we haven't gotten to hang out too much, and it was nice to just catch up with the two of them. I finally convinced them both to start reading Harry Potter too (they've never read the books and Teddye has only seen some of the movies) so I'm anxious to see what they think! Despite my best efforts to convince them otherwise, they both like Twilight. >.>
On Wednesday morning I had an initial interview out at Lubbock-Cooper. It's just a generic interview that they give to everyone that goes through the process of applying for a teaching position within their district, but it was still a lot of fun! The man that conducted the interview made me feel super relaxed and he was very personable and friendly and he kept cracking jokes. Basically, he would ask me a few questions and then type up my responses. Those responses are the things that get sent to building principals. If they like what they read, they'll access your actual application and call you in for an interview from there. Mr. Truby (my interviewer) was super complimentary of me at the end of the interview. He said that when I talk about teaching and I talk about my students or my future classroom...my face just lights up and I start talking faster. He said both of those things mean that I know what I want and he can tell that teaching truly is my passion in life. At the end of the interview, he and I even had a conversation about Harry Potter! He's never read the books and he was asking me if I thought his son was old enough to read them yet. He definitely made me feel that he liked me and that I would make a good asset to the Lubbock-Cooper district. They're opening up a new school in the Fall, so hopefully I'll be getting a call for an interview at some point next semester!
Today was my one day of the week where I had absolutely no obligations. I enjoyed just being lazy! Tomorrow I have my induction/cording ceremony at the College of Education and then Friday, of course, is graduation. I'm so excited...but nervous at the same time. It's also supposed to snow tomorrow - so I'm excited about that too. I think tomorrow morning (induction is at 1:00), I'm going to go over to Crestview to see my old 3rd graders and then stop by North Ridge to see my kindergarten babies. I miss them all so much! Of course, going to see them depends on whether or not I get to sleep at a decent time tonight and I know tomorrow will be a crazy day for teachers anyway..but it would be nice to see them all again before Christmas vacation.
