Yesterday we said goodbye to Little Miss, our ferret that we had for almost six years. It was very difficult for the both of us. The stress of her illness gave me a head cold so it's hard to separate the emotional pain and the physical.
She had an insulinoma (and we only found out something was wrong October 29th when she had a hypoglycemic episode) that had progressed to the point that she wasn't eating or drinking. It was hard to make the decision while she was still able to run around, but she stopped taking in baby food from a syringe and she would have rapidly declined so I'm sure we made the right choice before she was thirsty and starving.
Now we're concerned that Mr. Sir, our other ferret, will get depressed. Walton has floated the idea of getting a senior cat as a companion. Cats do better as a solo pet than ferrets. The vet suggested looking out for other ferrets, but I think we're done with having more as pets. We only got them because a friend of a friend was moving out of state.
I miss my sweet girl. Poor Little Miss.
