i had a really good christmas. more to come later (am spending quality time with my brother-- last night watched 'iron man' and the BSG miniseries, this morning it's 'lock stock and two smoking barrels' and 'inglourious basterds' before i take him to his train) but i just have to rec you all my yuletide presents, which were all three mindblowingly amazing. any one would have been a fantastic gift to wake up to on christmas morning, but three-- seriously, i have the best yule fairy *ever*.

all three fics are for patricia mckillip's riddle-master series (which i actually had thought was the fandom i was least likely to get written, which makes this all the more exciting.
- The Scars On His Hands - "who paid for his shape with the scars on his hands, and to whom?" five shapes har of osterland learned, and one he didn't. i cannot even express how amazing each piece of this fic is-- every section is its own self-contained story, but strung together they tell, essentially, the story of har's life and the way it was shaped and bound. it's gorgeous-- my yule fairy is an *awesome* writer-- and the tone of the books echoes perfectly throughout the story. i love everything about this, seriously it's left me a bit incoherent with glee. and i'll just be over here shipping har/suth forever now kthx...
-Mountain Time - "there are many paths to luthe's house in the mountains." when i asked for a crossover with "the hero and the crown" i really, really never thought i'd get it. this is short but very sweet-- lyra sets off into the woods, and when she stops it's to rest a while with luthe and aerin. i can just imagine the three of them having adventures and being awesome together; it's the best kind of crossover, where i see a whole other world unfolding from the meeting of the canons. i do ship lyra/aerin quite a lot, and adding luthe to the mix is double awesome -- this is one of those fics that makes me say, as raindissolved has said to me before, i want to write fanfiction for this fanfiction. XD
-Spear, Knife, Hand, Arrow - four weapons lyra learned. this is awesome for its perfect character study (and really, as someone who's just a weak weak thing for a good character study, getting beautifully written character pieces for my two favorite characters in the fandom is the best present *ever*) - it shows all the things i love about lyra; her vulnerability, her strength, her understanding of people, her tumultuous relationship with her mother, her loyalty, her desire to prove herself-- it's just beautifully and deftly done, weaving it into a story of her as a fighter and a girl who takes her place in a world much bigger than she is. A+

and then yesterday i got a comment on my own submission that nearly made me tear up, it was so awesome. :"} so, rec me your own yuletide presents, folks, i'd love to know what you got. XD

okay, time for lock stock. back later. and please flist, pray i stop feeling like death, this is not going to be pleasant if i get sick.

fandom: the earth-masters' children, writing: yuletide 09, fannish: recs
