yellow - sex pollen FTMFW. This trope could not possibly be written better-- high-on-pollen!Kirk is still to date one of the funniest things I've ever read, and the sex is brain-melting.
this rebellious nature by keeleywolfe - au where kirk and spock meet in iowa as teenagers. smoking hot, as with everything this girl writes, and really funny.

symphony for stars and planets by my good buddy singingintime who did the art for my big bang. read this one first, and then go check out her tag for the series and read all the supplemental ficlets she's written, and then just go read everything she's EVER written because she is fucking awesome. she also wrote me a fic for my birthday that is ridiculously awesome. :3
southern anthem by another friend of mine, vega_ofthe_lyre - civil war AU where mccoy and chapel are a confederate doctor and nurse. SO SEXY and gut-wrenchingly awesome. there's two sequels as well, if you can't find them let me know.
a beautiful(ly illogical) mind by waldorph : this piece is amazing in and of itself, but now the author has added like 15 supplemental fics, all character studies of the other people in the same 'verse, and you must at least attempt to read them all, because she is incredible and this 'verse is win. but just read the first one first, it serves as a standalone if you're not feeling ambitious.
looking for the dreamers : this is the kirk/kara fic that made me decide to write trek/bsg crossover for big bang. enough said? yeah, i thought so.

cast a long shadow (we all meet in the end) - harry potter fic about lily, petunia and snape. this is one of those fics that makes you go "really? like, really, how did someone come up with an idea this good and why did i not think of it first?" it's really sad, but awesome.
