so, your friend and mine, raphaela667, has been writing a bunch of west wing / star trek reboot crossover ficlets. and it's brilliant, she's just done an expert job of translating the trek characters into comparable roles in the west wing (both in terms of character equivalents-- kirk is josh lyman! mccoy is toby zeigler! why did no one think of this before ( Read more... )

West Wing is one of my all time favorite shows. I never missed an episode, and I've since watched the entire series twice on DVD. Aaron Sorkin is a god.

I used to think Joss Wedon was a god, until he lost his mind somewhere in the middle of the sixth season of BtVS, and the fourth season of Angel.

M*A*S*H was another terrific ensemble show. One of my favorite episodes is "Old Soldiers". The CO was an older regular army surgeon who joined the army as a grunt in WW1. In this episode he leaves the MASH 4077 without saying why, and a package comes from the states while he's gone. He returns and gathers together the senior staff of the 4077 and tells them a story from his days in WW1, about a group of very young soldiers who got drunk on really good brandy in France celebrating that they were still alive. They saved one bottle, to be opened by the final survivor, whenever that might be. Col. Potter had gone to Tokyo to see the only other remaining member of the group, who died while he was there. He said some wonderful things about friends old and new and opened the package from his wife, which of course was the bottle of brandy. Damn, I'm crying just thinking about it. Beautifully written, and played perfectly by the entire cast.
