Synopsis
Space, the final frontier. The original TV show in the 60's focused around the crew of the starship Enterprise as it traveled on a five-year-long mission to explore the outer reaches of the galaxy. This is referred to as Star Trek : The Original Series, or TOS for short. The new movie is referred to as Reboot or Alternate Original Series (AOS). The plot is centered around a Romulan ship that travels back in time and changes the course of history. We see Kirk, Spock and many of the other characters grow up and enter their Starfleet careers in very different ways than the ways these things occur in TOS canon, and there's a lot of badassery as the crew attempt to stop the future Romulan from destroying all the Federation planets. The movie also looks at the ways in which history tries to correct itself in terms of putting the characters in proximity to each other.

The Jhanas by arjuna76 - Spock gen, rated PG-13/R, pre-movie. this fic is incredible-- Spock's POV is unparalleled, everyone else is amazingly in-character as well, it's beautifully written and totally believable throughout.
The Things You See and the Ways You See Them by danahid - gen or kirk/spock, depending on which goggles you use. really beautiful fic, non-main-crewmember POVs, awesome worldbuilding, etc.
We Learn Each Other Slowly by raphaela667 - Kirk/Spock, R - one of the definitive fics for the ship. the first thing i happened to read after first seeing the movie and flailing about needing-- NEEDING-- to read something, i didn't know what, but when i read this fic I knew I'd found it. Gorgeous, gorgeous piece of writing.
You'll Get There In the End (It Just Takes Awhile) by seperis - Kirk/Spock, NC-17 - Hands down, this is my favorite fic in the fandom. I could write an entire post about all there is to love in here-- flashbacks, world-building, GOOD plot, characterization, center-of-the-sun-hot sex-- but instead I'll just say if you read one thing on this list, read this fic.
The Size of His Dream by taraljc - McCoy, Pike gen - pike's view of mccoy when he enlists, really cool character study of both of them.
This is Not A Love Song by robanybody - kirk/mccoy/chapel, R - one of the best threesomes i've ever read, because no one is the third wheel and everyone cares about everyone. chapel's POV is perfect, kirk and mccoy are perfect, and everyone on the enterprise is a family team of AWESOME. i really can't explain all the reasons why this fic rules, but it does.
name the stars by vega_ofthe_lyre - McCoy/Chapel, a romance in seven parts or a horror story in four. this fic is basically like what would happen if star trek had a baby with 'pitch black' and chapel was played by radha mitchell. fucking brilliant, creepy as hell, and the tension between mccoy and chapel is amazing.
