Matt had stayed up that little while longer to fiddle with some of the electrical equipment her now adopted twin brother had left in his room. She couldn't help it really, given that she'd been denied access to this stuff for months beforehand and it just felt so good to have her hands occupied like this again, and... secretly, it meant putting off sleeping in the bed with Mello a little while longer, at least hopefully until the other woman was asleep ( ... )

Mello heard the girl tinkering, a bit amused by it. Her Matt had done that a lot while she'd been recovering in his bed and trying his damnedest to be quiet before crawling into bed with her.

Her back stiffened a bit when she felt the other Matt climb in and part of her was wondering if this was a good idea at all. She'd always had trouble sleeping when it came to other people in bed with her. Other people climbing into bed with her. Previous experiences had always been bad and on top of that, this was Matt. Not her Matt, sure. Never her Matt. The guy was gone.

And, besides, it was a woman in bed with her - a woman. A woman version of Matt, no less. It would be okay. It really would.

She squeezed her eyes shut, attempting to curl into a ball and inadvertently taking the blankets with her.

Still searching for the comfy spot... still searching...

And then the warmth that had started to build up beneath the blanket was suddenly gone, jus like that, and of course once the heat vanished it hit her how chilly it was outside of the blankets. Matt shivered in response and cautiously reached for the edge of the blanket, deciding to getly attempt to tug some of it back for herself. If Mello was asleep then she didn't want to wake her doing it.

She gave an experimental tug, which, when it accomplished nothing caused her to let out a huff of annoyance, so she tugged harder, she liked Mello... really, but she was't going to spend all night being cold thanks to her blanket-hogging.

"Damn it Mello..." she muttered, greedy blondes, they always shared that.

"Oh, sorry," Mello muttered, just wanting to get through the first night here and let go of her grip on the blank. Though she doubted Matt was going to keep it once they were actually asleep. Practically every night had left them taking turns on waking up to no blanket until the redhead had gotten a clue and grabbed a second one from somewhere.

Not that she was going to suggest it this late at night. As high strung as she was at the moment, she was also exhausted from the day's events and all the running around they'd done to get some basics essentials for herself and this Matt. She was still shocked that the other girl had suggested going commando. Mello was a lot of things, but leather pants were uncomfortable enough without something padding them and she refused to go commando on the rare occasions she'd worn a skirt.

Then, she had to ask. She remembered the things the girl had told her over the computers. And she needed to say something to fill the silence or else she'd start thinking too much again and wind up staying awake all ( ... )

"Oh... umm... no problem." Matt smiled nervously at that, "I didn't realise you were awake else I'd have asked." Score one loser point for Matt, but it wasn't like she trained herself for the express purpose of knowing when somebody else was asleep or not. Usually when she'd shared a bed before she ended up cuddled tightly to the other person so there'd never been any issues like this before ( ... )

"It's okay," she answered. Under normal circumstances, she wouldn't have said anything, kept feigning sleep, and just kept the blanket for herself. Lord knew Matt would have wound up with it at some point or another during the night if she was exactly the same as her counterpart. And then she'd tug it back to herself - it'd be a tug of war.

As for cuddling, Mello had only ever cuddled with two people - the first had been because she'd let down her guard enough to essentially latch onto the dork in her sleep and the other brat she'd only cuddled with twice when she'd been ill.

"It's weird for me, too. Sharing, that is. I'm not used to sharing without . . . " she trailed off quietly, deciding not to go into it, "I'm just not used to sharing, even when the dork and I were sharing. And . . . ummm . . . "

And the rambling was infectious. Well, damn.

"'kay." she echoed, nodding. "Is this a normal thing for you then?" she added with a wry smile, be good to know if she was in for a battle here, maybe she should safety pin her end of the blanket to herself. But that she could see ending in some uncomfortable situations with her clothes being stretched so decided she better just do it the normal way ( ... )

"Yeah. He and I used to spend the entire night playing tug of war since he was just as bad," she answered with a small smile of her, surprised it didn't hurt quite as much to talk about him right now. Maybe it was because she was essentially talking to a differing version of him right now ( ... )

A small chuckle escaped at that, "Yeah? Well here's to hoping I can match up." Matt smiled back at her, she would have to if she wanted to stay warm by the sounds of things ( ... )

Mello didn't have much first-hand experience with alternates. Just that Near and now this World. It was unnerving, to be honest. Part of her wondered if she'd get used to it if this whole mess kept up.

"Really now? You sure it was me and not someone masquerading as me?" she attempted to joke. She couldn't imagine not eating chocolate. It was . . . well, she supposed there must be stranger universes out there.

She shrugged. "Any of them, I guess. I don't know."

She was used to it, it had taken some time but she was, it was the first time she'd met a female Mello though and she realised this must be what it as like when the male Mello's had first met her. It was mostly just getting past the feeling that this was a stranger impersonating someone you knew and realised it was actually them.

"I did wonder at first but then... yeah was definately a you." A small chuckled and she wriggled slightly, looking down at the mattress for a moment. "You do, a bit, I mean like you said, there's a lot of things that you all share. Chocolate, the leather, hair and the erm... scar." She didn't know how sensitive this one was about it.

"But, you're different two, you seem calmer I guess." Not as temperamental or quick to act, more reasonable might have been a better way to put it.

Mello rolled her eyes at the mention of the scar and reached out to pick up Matt's wrist, blushing darkly when she placed the other girl's hand against her scarred cheek. For how self-conscious the thing tended to make her sometimes, she wasn't too upset about it. It was only when she was reminded of the explosion in an explicit manner did she start having problems. She couldn't think of a reason for those to occur in the near-future, so she didn't need to worry about that.

Still, even though she initiated the contact, no one had really touched it before. Well, except to give medical treatment and that had been painful. It still was in places. Besides that, it felt oddly intimate to do this and it just made her mind go blank at that until Matt mentioned her being somewhat calmer than the other Mellos she'd met before.

She shrugged one shoulder. Mello knew she'd been more cautious as of late, but she'd gotten someone she'd actually cared about killed. Who wouldn't be more cautious after that? Beforehand it had just been her own neck ( ... )

Matt echoed her in the blushing, not as mcuh as Mello did but it was still there, she hadn't expected Mello to do anything like that, more like bypass the mention entirely. Unconciously her fingertips wandered over the hardened scar tissue, wondering if it was the same even down to the mottled patterns of the skin.

It reminded her of the first time she touched his scar, though she had initiatied that contact herself, but she still remembered the way he had tensed up, enduring it rather than enjoying it. Important lesson on being with Mello's, do not touch the scar without permission, else you got your ear chewed off, even the males could reach surprising volumes when yelling. She didn't say anything just gave Mello a kind of grateful smile, thanks for letting her touch it... sort of.

"Ah..." Matt nodded, figuring what month it must have been for her, given that she was from only a week prior to the event. "Least you're out of it now? You can relax and enjoy yourself." Mello deserved that, more than anything, to be able to do ( ... )

Her face turned redder at the wandering fingers and she did stiffen a little bit when she touched a few spots that still ached. This was so weird, someone touching that thing, for the most part, she stayed still, but it was still weird.

She smiled back as well, just a bit. The exercise was also a show of trust as well. She wouldn't have agreed to share a bed to let this girl touch her in any way if she didn't trust her. Even if she barely knew her - this was inherently Matt.

"I'd be able to relax if I knew what the hell went down on Near's end of it," she muttered and then rolled her eyes, "Hell, I think what's bugging me the most is Matt said he wanted to ask me something after that whole mess was over and then he winds up getting shot. And . . . I just . . . I just want to know what it was, you know?"

There it was, out in the open. The two things that had been bugging her the most over the past month or so.

Matt pulled her hand back soon after, not wanting to take too many liberties right now, it had been a show of trust that she recognised and she didn't want to botch anything up so soon. Slipping her hand under the pillow she propped up her head a bit so she could look at Mello a little better, it didn't seem like they'd be sleeping for a while yet ( ... )

"That pattern is pretty much what's been keeping me from going completely insane not knowing. I'm sure it's the same for you. You just had a war and other junk to distract you from what was happening there."

She tugged the blanket up a little higher as Matt propped herself up. Yeah, so much for sleep. This was just too awkward a situation to sleep anytime soon.

"You sure?" she pried - yes, she admitted she was prying, "No idea at all?"
