No I didn't die!

Lets see where to start. I won't begin by updating all the crazy past. I will however just talk about how excited I am about hosting our foreign exchange student!

When J moved out of the 2nd bedroom up to Seattle for work we decided to make the 2nd bedroom a really honest to goodness second bedroom. I thought well what will we do with just an empty room. I thought well we could host an exchange student. I talked to P about it and he gave his generic answer when he is not prepared to make any decisions which is "why don't you research it?".

I did and ASSE got back to me with 12 kids to pick from. It was a little strange over the phone becuase she was asking me questions almost like I was picking out a new car. Do you want a boy or girl, what age are you looking for, what country, ones that come from a home with siblings or none? I just told her send me all of their host letters and I would choose from those. Moritz was our choice because he had the most in common with our interests and he was older. He is very bright, gets good grades and his english is good enough that I don't feel like we wouldn't be able to communicate.

We went ahead with the home study and background check ( they come see your home and they do criminal background checks and asked 4 friends about us) so they can make sure we are not bad people. So we went ahead with it and he is coming in August for a school year. We are excited and we are the youngest host family is Los Angeles. The nice thing is that they have tons of activities planned for him ( that his family paid for) like a trip to Hawaii at during Christmas break and other dinners with the other host families so he won't get too lonely.

P and I have been emailing back and fourth with him and he sent us a package to us, and us to him. We are very excited because we wanted to get more involved in the community and what better way than to have a kid in school. We were VERY honest about how bad LAUSD is and the school isn't so great, but our area rep. said he totally understands.

So there it is. We also just got back from Vancouver, BC for 3 days for a wedding and it was GREAT, we head to Sydney in less than 10 days for 10 more days. It will be my first vacation ( not for a wedding or funeral) since my honeymoon. So that will be nice. I am getting some sewing done for some gifts this weekend that I am really looking forward to. I got this great hat pattern. Let's see if it turns out so great.
