Good, so now I can say with a certain amount of specious, lj-granted authority that *Snape is not evil.* Because, if he was? That would just be stone-stupid.
I realize JKR's plot-twists are sometimes not as twisty as one might like, but she does set great store by them. She's worse than Dick Wolf, for God's sake. And IN NO WAY do I believe that the big plot twist at the end of book 7 -- because inevitably there is one -- is that the guy we thought was evil in book 1 is actually evil.
But of course everyone is all, No, no, she said in interviews! But seriously, what on earth are you going to say? "Dear Jo: Is it true that Snape's Redemption is going to be your big twist ending for the whole series to which you have devoted a cool decade of your life?" "Why, yes, yes it is. Don't expect much else; you've got it all worked out. Good job!"
