Cliche Ficathon entry (TS) -- Lexicon

Jul 15, 2005 13:59

Written for the Getting A Sense of Cliches ficathon challenge. On reflection, I'm not sure if it's h/c-ish enough to be h/c, and I think I used sound a lot more than I used smell, so as a hurt/comfort story focusing on the sense of smell, I don't quite know what I thought I was doing here. Anyway, it's due now, and this is what I wrote *g*

This broke my heart in that wonderful happy/sad aching way.

Thank you! That's the mission in life for any h/c story, no?

I think there's some rule against making a person cry at 1 PM on a Friday.

I'm glad you broke it.

This was . . . incredible on several levels. Thank you so very, very much for writing it.

For I am a lawless breaker-of-rules! I drink milk after the expiration date! You can't stop me!!!

Or I, er. Scratch that. Just, thank you!

Ohhhhh... this was wonderful!
::is verklempt::

I took an ASL class in college, so I had strong visual images of the signing (and empathy for Jim as he learned it) in my mind as I read this.

Awesome! I did some research for it, enough to be able to visualize what they were saying at key points. I rather wished the audience could get a clear view of it, too, but there was no way to describe it so that it wasn't completely cumbersome to read. It's cool that you, at least, could see it, though!

This was just really stunning. How ... courageous, I think, of you to pick a hurt from which Jim can't recover, and to go from there. Thank you for sharing this.

Thank you! I really liked the idea of forcing Jim into retirement, of the decommissioned Sentinel -- what the hell is your second act, fishing? So I really needed something that had some finality to it. I'm glad it worked for you.
