One of my favourite new collections for spring 2009 is the post-apocalyptic earth inspired line designed by the Mulleavy sisters for Rodarte. Despite it's futuristic vibe many aspects of the collection reference very raw and organic materials as well as depict the organic process of decay. This is evident in a few dresses that featured exo-skeleton slashed up tops or loose, torn and knotted knit fabrics that hang grimly on the models. Rodarte shows so much creativity at mixing materials from soft sheer fabrics to slick vinyls, metal chain and distressed knits while still maintaining their very distinct aesthetic. The style.com summary of their collection complained that the pieces were unwearable but I disagree. There are several dresses throughout this collection that I would absolutely kill to wear, they are even already accessorized to my liking with sexy leather gloves and an incredible remixed version of the fishnet stocking.
