( Teaching 7th grade is a huge responsibility. Not one that I think I could assume all year. They're REALLY beginning to think for themselves (or not). Yesterday, I presented them with a few ideas to think about before they went on their merry way to BBQs, firework shows, and a holiday which celebrates independence and freedom. Most of them didn't even realize why/what the 4th of July is. We talked about various civil rights movements, equality and then focused on the events which led to the Civil Rights Act of 1964...nearly 200 years after the Declaration of Independence was signed. We talked about personal responsibility and dissent and then I showed them a movie about the Children's March in Birmingham, which finally pushed Kennedy into addressing segregation. It was important to me that they left the class knowing that dissent can come in many forms and from ANY person...I really think we cripple kids by )

wow I thank you for doing your job.
I just ranted on my own page about how I was feeling yesterday during the events that happened in my side of the world and It made me happy to then read my friends page to see this article. Thanks for being you and I am honored to be a bitty part of your life so I can read these posts.
