I'm so proud of Haley! She just landed a very important internship with Outfront MN! They were really impressed with her leadership skills as head of the MHS Gay Straight Alliance and the work she did getting the whole school involved in watching a documentary on Bullying. They want her to focus on the problem of school bullying, in particular, and gather all the information she can on all the different anti-bullying policies of high schools in Minnesota. This is such a high profile issue, these days, and the fact that my sister is participating in it, in such a big way.....golly. She actually thinks she might want to major in Gender Studies in college and work for an organization like Outfront once she graduates. Pretty snazzy.
Oliver is almost 6 months old. He's sort of crawling now, like an inch worm....he gets up on all fours, lunges forward and falls in a heap, repeat. Basically, at least he can get where he's going if it's somewhat close by. I'm practicing his eating with a spoon by giving him a little rice cereal every day. He LOVES eating like a big boy and on the 18th, he'll be able to try fruits and veggies too. I'm way too excited! I even already bought some baby food sweet potatoes, bananas, and carrots. He still smiles constantly, loves everyone, needs tons of attention (possibly an entertainer of some sort? hehe), dances with mama, bounces with daddy, explores with Dan, tries to terrorize the cats, laughs at my family's dog Lindsay playing fetch, and is all around awesome. Oh, and he's getting his first tooth in, it's already poked through slightly.
The weather is so nice, but I barely get out. I am starting to jog again and I have those wonderful running shoes with the individual toes that makes it feel like you are barefoot. They work!!! My feet don't hurt like hell when I run anymore. The fair was fun, although I went on the hottest day! It was the only day Haley had off work. She and Andrea hadn't gone since they were little and were happily surprised that it was fun. We ran into a bunch of family members and Oliver was mentioned on Paul Allen's radio show over and over again for an hour! Also, Paul gave me these really amazing crab fritters. After the fair, Ollie and I went with Scott, Lorrie, George and his mom to the Vikings preseason game....on the field! It was SOOOOO COOL! Scott was already over it because he went last year too, but I'm a much more dedicated fan than he is anyway and I got to walk on the turf, at the back of the end-zone, while the players were right there! Ollie has already done so much stuff in his short life...mentioned on the radio...on the Vikings field during a game....trip to Chicago, two weddings...etc.
I got a small paying job, basically the same as babysitting wages, helping out an apple orchard at different farmer's markets, which is right up my alley. At least it'll be extra spending money and I'll hopefully have fun doing it.
