This is all happening so fast.
Yesterday at work I got a call from Max, the director of photography for a film which I've been working on since Tuesday. He asked if I was available for another production meeting for a different movie being shot very soon. I, of course, said yes, as long as there was pay involved. Long story short, the movie is kind of a bust with very little budget, and the director of that movie seemed to prefer having his friend with no experience do the script work so he wouldn't have to pay him. He was really hesitant to say yes to me, especially when Max told him I most certainly needed to get paid.
But, the producer of that film told me that another production is underway and the director is frantic for a script supervisor. He gave me her number and said to call right away. Sure enough, I told her I was a script and she instantly replied,"What are your wages?" The downfall, production starts this Monday and runs for two weeks straight. So I can't be there for the whole 16 hour shoot days, but I've worked it out with the Assistant Director, who works his regular job at night, and we're going to share the load.
It's not uncommon for a production to have two script supervisors. And many times, on longer shooting schedules, a script will work for a few weeks, the get replaced and replaced and so on.
I'm so nervous and excited at the same time. I feel better knowing that since their options for a script were limited, they were just going to settle with the AD with no experience being their script supervisor(for some reason I equate this to them not being demanding in what they are looking for). I had no hand in the pre-production, so I'm only involved in the on screen continuity and matching notes. Makes things a little easier, I think.
