"dear csilla,
"recognizing your record of distinguished academic achievement at the college of wooster and exceptional potential for leadership in your field, i write on behalf of the graduate fellowship committee.....to bring to your attention a unique opportunity to broaden your professional perspective. this year the henry luce foundation will name eighteen luce scholars to work in prestigious professional settings in asia. each scholar will be placed by the luce foundation in a professional capacity with a leading firm in asia in the scholar's chosen field, be paid a significant monthly stipend through the period of his/her participation, receive a special cost-of-living allowance should he/she be assigned to an area where such costs are significantly higher than in the united states, be given economy class air transportation for all travel required by the program, and be provided medical and travel insurance.....
"on the basis of your extremely strong academic record, strong leadership, and high recommendation of the college, we believe that you would be an ideal candidate for one of these fellowships. of the more than 3000 undergraduate institutions in the united states, wooster is among just sixty-seven invited to submit nominations.....
"luce scholars have backgrounds in virtually any field - other than asian studies - including medicine, the arts, business, law, science, environmental studies, and journalism. placements can be made in the following countries in east and southeast asia: brunei, cambodia, china and hong kong, indonesia, japan, laos, malaysia, mongolia, philippines, singapore, south korea, taiwan, thailand, and vietnam....."
