When you least expect it,
love comes rushing in.
Then, when you accept it-
they turn their back again.

Often this has happened,
too many times to count.
They say they really love me,
then they cast me out.

I open up my heart,
hoping they really care.
But they always slam it shut,
and leave me crying there.

I am petrified,
to open it once more.
Afraid i'll let my guard down,
and again they'll slam the door.

Because of this great fear,
i know i may have missed,
A true and lasting love,
filled with happiness.

When you find someone,
who's love for you is true.
You mess everything up,
by the things You say and do.

So, you go on living life,
cold, crying and forlorn.
Never truly knowing,
if you'll always be alone.

Alone, no one can hurt you,
alone, there is no pain.
But open up your heart,
And they'll slam it shut again.

After a few times,
you'll start locking the door.
And soon you won't remember,
what your heart is there for.

And again you'll be alone,
crying yourself to sleep at night.
And you'll wonder why you opened your heart.
When you should have locked it tight.
