An Opening Scene (just a starter thing)

Well, here's just something I started, it's really elementary, but just a starter, thought it might be nice to see what some of the fantasy writers think. Sorry it's going to all show up like it will, I wish it didn't, so that you could just read if desired. It's not as good as the Prologue to the book I was writing, because all of that stuff got lost when my dad's PC crashed, apparently the data for the story on floppy got corrupted too, so I got screwed, just thought I'd pick it up again and see what you think. The italics are thoughts and large spaces are changes of time

"I love you, Dear One" Liria bids her lover as she approaches the door.

"And I love you, but you must hurry back to the Castle for now. I bid you farewell until next we meet" he replies with adulation apparent even in his stance.

Liria walks to the door, stepping out of the well kept, comfortable house of the Captain, thoughts weighing heavily on her mind.

Off in the distance, bells toll the time. 11pm, I've dwelled here far too long, it's time to get back up to the castle.

The streets are dark with only the occasional corner lamp and the sliver moon above for light, casting dancing shadows seemingly only to unsettle her more.

In a hurry, fearful of street gangs and bandits, she rushes off in the direction of the castle, with only her mind for company and a small dacra for protection.

About a half league away from her lover's house, she hears a sound accompanied by a sudden, but almost imperceptible movement off to the left.

"Who's there? Show yourself or I'll call the Guard!" she stated, trying to steady her breath, knowing that if someone were there, she'd be helpless with nobody around. Calm down Liri, you're just fine, was probably a rat. she thought, trying to mollify herself.

From out of the shadows, just behind her, a man appears, making just enough noise for her to turn. He is almost 7 feet tall, his face obscured by the cloak he wears, no telling details of his appearance visible. She jumps back in fright Oh no! and it was as if time froze. That was all she could think before he caught her in mid jump.

'Nnnhgg-!' she tried to scream, but that was all she got out, for with a slight wave of his gloved hand, she lost her ability to speak.

Now now 'Dear One' I don't want you to make any loud noises. I would much rather not be found, and I have splendid plans for you, my girl, his voice sounded darkly in her mind.

How can you do this?! Get out of my head! Lemme go!

Not now, girl, but I will grant you a small reprieve. Good night, for now

No! This isn't happening. she thinks to herself, shivering with fear. Then, with another wave of his hand, all went black.

"Uuunnggh" Liria mutters, waking, neck and upper shoulders sore from the near throttling earlier. She looks around slightly, trying not to give away the fact that she is awake. The room is nothing but stone bricks. Light fills the room from flickering candles, shades dancing around the corners.

Where am I? Why am I so cold? Oh Lord I hurt. I can't move and these chains are digging into my wrists. Not caring now whether or not her captor knew she was awake, she moved her hands slowly, achingly over what she found to be a stone altar.

An altar, why am I on an altar? Wait... I recognize this place, it's the Castle Dungeon. Who is he that he could bring me here without arising any suspicion?

"Heh, that's right Liria, you've got it figured out, or almost." His voice was sinister, dark, but seductive and beautiful in its own right, but not to be trusted. By his voice, he was young, perhaps her age. Suddenly the light dimmed in the room and she heard footsteps approaching her and the sound of something being mixed in a wooden bowl. She tried to struggle against her bonds some more, but knew it was futile.

"No amount of struggling will help you escape these chains my dear, for struggling makes them stronger, tighter." She realized the truth of this as the chains binding her hands to her sides closed, causing her to cry out in pain.

When he finally got to the table he set the bowl down close to her head, allowing her to gaze upon his visage. His face was cruelly handsome, deep green eyes, slightly tanned, high cheek bones and dark haired. His cloak was darker than night, as if staring into an abyss, silver runes lining the cloak as if for decoration. He continued moving about, waiting for her to speak, for he knew she would.

"You're the one that's responsible for all the disappearances lately aren't you?"

"Yes child, I needed some practice before I came after you."

"What do you want with me? Who are you anyway?"

"My dear, it's not you I want, but the child you bear."

"The child I... bear?"

"Yes."

"You won't get away with this you know, you will be found out, and Linden will find you."

"Actually, I'm counting on it, you see, he has a destiny to fulfill too, and I intend on keeping him from it."

"No, you won't." and with that, she focused all her will on one of the knives he had on a table, causing it to levitate and hurled it at her captor. The knife flew, it's aim true, but cluttered to the floor against an inivisble shield around the man's person.

"Oh my, I was wondering when you might try that. You shouldn't be trying to kill me Dear one, you should be thanking me. After all, I'm giving you and your son the chance to participate in a momentous event. You will bring to life a God. Or rather, your son will, for with your death, he dies too, and your powers will be mine. Alas, I am done talking, and so, are you."

He approached the altar again, muttering something she could not understand.

Oh no, Linden, if only I could warn you, you're in danger too. I'm sorry, I've let you down.

With one swift motion, a dagger appeared in his hand.

She watched in horror as the dagger plunged, screaming "LINDEN!!!" and darkness was all there was.

He awoke in a cold sweat to the sultry heat of the palace. Oh no, please let that only have been a dream, just let it be a dream, knowing he couldn't have just dreamed something like that.

"Guards!" he bellowed to the sentry stationed outside his room.

"Find Linden, have him report to the Great Hall, I'm afraid I have grave news."

And no, It's nowhere near everything, would have liked to have more on the final part, but I kinda need to get to homework, I'll elaborate upon and whatnot later.
