Below is my collection of canonical facts about Lisbon, for my reference, and for anyone else who might be interested. In addition to canon, I've postulated other things about Lisbon, her past, and her family, in an attempt to delve more fully into her head. Comments, suggestions, feedback, etc. are always welcomed!
First and foremost, we know that her mother died when she was 12, and her father subsequently drank himself into oblivion. He was abusive, though interestingly, Lisbon makes it a point to say that it doesn't say that in her profile. Her father would have blackouts when he drank, and he once beat her brother half to death, yet couldn't remember having done that. We don't know much about her brothers at this point, except that they're all younger than her. For the time being, until canon proves me wrong or right, I'm going on the assumption that the Lisbon siblings are all roughly two-ish years apart, give or take a year.
With the name Teresa, I'm going to assume her mother was Italian, and hence, her siblings probably all have Catholic/Italian names. Also, I think the crucifix Lisbon wears might have been her mother's. We see hints in the show that Lisbon could be somewhat spiritual herself, but I also see the crucifix as being a memento more than just a statement of her own beliefs. Just my thoughts at the moment.
Let's see--
-- I think she went to college, probably studied Criminal Justice, or something similar. Graduated around the age of 22, and went to the police academy. I believe she would have started on the SFPD around the age of 25, and Bosco was her first partner. They worked together on SFPD for five years until Lisbon was offered a transfer to CBI in Sacramento. Being the driven, ambitious person she is, she obviously couldn't turn it down. But I think she might have encouraged Bosco to join her; he did, eventually, just not then.
-- I don't think she actually got her own team until she was about 32. Canon-wise, I put her at about 35-ish on the show?
-- I think Lisbon is physically active; she probably jogs in the early morning before work. And we see on the show that she enjoys watching sports, but I believe she also enjoys playing sports. Now, she's a feisty person, can be a scrapper, and I have this idea in my head that for fun sometimes, she plays women's rugby. Just a small little recreational team, nothing serious.
-- Expanding on this: I think Lisbon stays physically fit, but she doesn't always eat very healthy. We see in the show that she very much enjoys pizza, meatball subs, and never turns down an offer of donuts. While I don't see her just eating junk all the time, she's probably definitely a meat-and-potatoes kind of eater. Her veggies of choice are probably the quick and easy Green Giant frozen veggies you can pop into a microwave, but she does get her veggies and fruit, too. She enjoys strawberries, for instance.
-- Thanks to
clearlythatsme's mun, I also see Lisbon as being musically inclined, i.e. probably a very good singer. Perhaps she was in choir, or even a band of some sort, but she doesn't like to let anyone know she's actually very good at it. I think maybe Bosco's heard her sing; one night after work, I could see some SFPD colleagues hanging out at a bar, maybe a little karaoke occurred, something like that. In the show, Lisbon does a not-so-good job of hiding that she played an instrument of some sort. My thoughts are that she either played the clarinet (Jane's first guess) or something equally soft and beautiful, but a little more lonely and tragic: the French Horn.
-- Places Bosco & Lisbon would have likely frequented around San Francisco while they were on SFPD (because I'm weird and wrote all this stuff down when I went into the city last weekend):
At the intersection of Hyde Street and Golden Gate
* Allstars Donuts & Burgers
* Morty's Delicatessen
* Galaxy Pizza
Next to Patricia's Green by Hayes Street
* Flipper's Gourmet Burgers
Near San Francisco Hall of Justice
* Temple Bar
Also, because this is how I operate (and for the purposes of role-playing), I've named her brothers AND found faces for them. Again, until I am told otherwise, I'm compiling all of this for my own purposes.
Ahem. So. The oldest boy (he is two years younger than Lisbon): Anthony. He's a corporate type; businessman, entrepreneur, something like that. He and Lisbon, being the two oldest, looked after the younger ones. He's probably a lot like Lisbon, a bit harder on the edges, very responsible and driven, obviously pretty close to his sister. I believe he lives in the Bay Area, probably somewhere more affluent like Mill Valley.
The middle brother (four years younger than Lisbon): Joseph. He's...kind of a wash-out. Little bit on the flaky side. He's smart, but not ambitious at all, doesn't have much work ethic, and just prone to laziness. He tends to be in and out of jobs, and living situations. He stays mostly on the West Coast, but is rarely in one place for more than a year at a time because he just can't hold a job. As a reaction to his childhood, I believe he's a teetotaler, adamantly opposed to drinking. I can see he and Lisbon possibly having had arguments about her drinking patterns in the past. Not that she's an alcoholic, but I believe there's an undercurrent with her that suggests she could teeter on the edge sometimes.
The baby brother (six years younger than Lisbon: Michael. He's a gypsy, a wandering spirit. I think he's something like an investigative journalist, or perhaps a photographer with a major news magazine of some sort. But he's constantly traveling, he doesn't want to stay in one place for too long. He keeps in touch with Lisbon via e-mail, generally once a week, and they tend to be long, intimate e-mails, so they remain fairly close.
