Teresa Lisbon wasn't the type to easily admit to deeper emotional feelings, like genuine care, concern, affection, and love. But for the intuitive people in the world (Jane was, infuriatingly at times, amongst this lot), it was easy to see through Lisbon's carefully constructed veneer of detachment; beneath her facade, there was a softer, more sensitive and emotional person, who let those sorts of feelings out carefully, over time. Certainly, she had a great deal of care and concern for her team, even if she also didn't let on to that easily. Van Pelt being shot at just a few days ago had been a stark reminder of reality, and the nature of their job. So often, they simply investigated the horrible things that bad people did to other people, doing their best to protect the ones left behind. Occasionally, unfortunately, that danger came too close for comfort. Case in point: one Grace Van Pelt taking a few hits to her bullet-proof vest. And thank God she'd worn it.
Partially as an effort to give Van Pelt more field time, and partially to keep an eye on her/reassure herself that Grace really was okay, Lisbon decided to take the redhead along this time to interview witnesses and family members tied to their latest case. It would be a fairly decent drive: south to Stockton.
Lisbon was driving them there, but she'd already decided she'd let Van Pelt drive back.
"So. How are you feeling?" She finally queried, once they were safely onto the freeway.
