Sunday night was my last night of work. It feels very very good to be done. I have to spend some serious time reflecting on the experience though. In terms of "paths of greater resistance" I didn't do so hot. I may as well have spend my time greased with vaseline headed down a giant slip 'n' slide. I hope I never have to spend so much time blatantly pandering to men again. Sadly, I may need to go back in January, but at least that won't be 3 whole months of work. Yesterday I went to visit my cousins Martha and Jack. They're amazing. I've always loved them, and now I'm old enough to have an independent relationship with them. They're some of the only family I have who are really involved with social justice, and it's nice to have in house allies. They understand the work I do, and support me completely, which is comforting, because my parents, while they try (well my dad tries at least)don't really get it. Anyhow, we talked a while and had lunch, the highlight being the most amazing tomato I've had in a long time. I'd forgotten how good a tomato could be. (Damn you for being right Barbera Kingsolver ::grumble:: depleted seed bank diversity ::grumble.)Then I wound up taking a 3 hour nap in the hammock on their deck which is actually right on a lake. Very Nice. I highly recommend it to anyone if they can find the opportunity. Breeze, hummingbirds, gentle swaying...All around a delightful way to pass time.
Also, my parents are gone all week. It'll be really relaxing to be all by myself. I won't see them until I get to Amherst where we will rendezvous for a birthday lunch as they are on their way back from Maine. Speaking of my birthday, I will be celebrating in Amherst this year. This'll be the first time I haven't spent my birthday at home, or at least with my family. Considering how I sometimes feel about Sayreville, I'm surprised that I'm a little shaken up by that. If you're going to be in the Amherst area on the 28th give me a call. I'm planning on cooking a dinner or something. Just a small calm kinda thing. Hopefully good food, fun people, and a bottle of wine that doesn't suck (I hesitate to say a "good bottle" just because It rarely seems to turn out that way).
