The neuroscientists use the word "pruning." Also, "plasticity." Lately, and maybe lately has been three years now, it's more of a slow calcification, or grooves wearing down like grass into muddy footpaths. Lately: deja vu. I miss presque vu. I miss jamais vu. I'd rather be dreaming.
Is it necessary that as we age our sense of time speeds, while our minds lag behind living ever farther in the past? We are born with undifferentiated senses. We are born synaesthetes. We are born valves. We are born appendages. What is a riverbed when there is no river?
I am ready for a return to the things that I have almost seen.
